Former publicist of P-Square, Bayo Adetu, has opened up about the brothers’ prolonged feud.
Adetu worked closely with Peter and Paul Okoye from 2005, before their major breakthrough. He also witnessed their rise, family dynamics and professional relationship from close range.
In this exclusive interview, he discusses the roots of their disagreements and Jude Okoye’s role. 
He also addresses claims involving Lola Omotayo, third-party interference.
P-Square twins: ‘Peter and Paul were never extremely close’
Adetu began working with P-Square shortly before the release of Get Squared. The album later became a major turning point in their career.
At the time, the twins had relocated to Lagos and lived in rented apartments. They eventually built SquareVille on Lola Holloway Street in Omole Phase 1.
”I started working with P-Square sometime in 2005, shortly before the release of the Get Squared album that gave them the first major breakthrough. They had just relocated to Lagos and were living at Egbeyemi Street in Ilupeju, from where they moved to another rented apartment at Lola Holloway Street, Omole Phase1. They eventually built SquareVille on the same street some years later.”
Although Adetu left after the duo’s first breakup, he maintained a cordial relationship with both brothers.
“To be honest, Peter and Paul have never been really close; I mean the type of personal closeness you see in most twins, but they’re extremely professional.”
He described their relationship as more professional than personal. However, he said their professional chemistry remained exceptional.
According to him, both brothers demanded perfection and refused to compromise their standards.
“When it’s time to work, they do it with impeccable team spirit and passion because they’re both perfectionists. They don’t settle for less. That’s why even when they’re quarrelling, they will still deliver the best synergised performance on stage.”
P-Square feud: ‘Fans unconsciously contributed to the problem’
Adetu believes fan comparisons helped create some of the earliest cracks. Fans often debated whether Peter or Paul was the better singer or dancer.
He said those comparisons ignored the fact that P-Square functioned as one musical unit.

“P-Square is P-Square. You don’t need to ask who is the singer and who is the dancer.”
Adetu explained that Paul handled most lead vocals during studio recordings. However, Peter also contributed ideas and creative input. While Jude participated in their studio sessions and administrative processes as well.
The entire team regularly reviewed new recordings before releasing them.
Adetu said the brothers valued honest criticism from their team.
“Since inception, or let me safely say from the Get Squared Album, Paul had been the voice behind the microphone in the studio, but this doesn’t mean Peter doesn’t add valuable inputs or ideas in the production, like Jude too. If the majority of us didn’t like the song, they would drop it.”
How the P-Square’s fight deepens
He traced deeper disagreements to the period after Invasion.
A foreign royalty deal reportedly triggered disagreements over their revenue-sharing arrangement. Peter later sought a review of the sharing formula.
“The real problems started after the release of Invasion album. El-Hadji Diouf, the Senegalese and Liverpool player had facilitated a foreign royalty deal for P-Square. One thing led to the other, and Peter called for a review of the sharing formula, which Paul and Jude raised objections. Paul said after all, he’s the songwriter and singer, so he should be the one asking for a review.”
The disagreement continued during preparations for Double Trouble. Peter then pushed for equal singing opportunities on the album.
“Peter insisted that singing should be 50-50. The album had 16 and each of them did eight songs each. Peter’s beautiful songs include Ejeajo featuring T.I, Shekini, Zombie featuring Marlon Jackson and others. Paul did Collabo featuring Don Jazzy among other hits in the album.”
‘Jude should have attended Peter’s wedding’
Adetu said he noticed serious family tension when Jude missed Peter’s wedding in Lagos. He had worked behind the scenes during the ceremony and noticed Jude’s absence.
Paul, meanwhile, played a significant role throughout the wedding.
“We were all busy at the wedding venue on the Island ensuring everything was in order. Paul played a vital role from the engagement ceremony to the reception, that was when I realized that Jude was conspicuously missing. I knew something was wrong.”
Adetu also recalled an incident involving former Nigerian football star Kanu Nwankwo.
Kanu arrived without his invitation card at the strictly private ceremony. Security initially prevented him from entering despite recognising him.
Paul and Adetu rushed outside after Ali Baba alerted them. They eventually brought Kanu into the venue.

“Something funny happened that day. Kanu Nwankwo, who was invited to the wedding came without his invitation card (it was a strictly by invitation event) and the bouncers wouldn’t allow him in, despite recognizing him as a legendary footballer. It was Ali Baba who rushed inside the hall to tell Paul what was happening outside. Myself and Paul immediately dashed out to bring Kanu in. Paul was very furious with the bouncers, and apologized to Kanu.”
‘The fund allegations came much later’
Adetu rejected claims that alleged financial diversion started the P-Square dispute. He said those allegations emerged in 2024.
Peter had invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate Jude, his wife and Paul.
Adetu noted that the matter remains subject to legal proceedings. He therefore distinguished those allegations from the earlier disagreements within P-Square.
“The syphoning of funds allegations came up in 2024 when Peter invited the EFCC to investigate Jude, his wife and Paul. But that is currently being handled in court.”
‘All three have their faults’
Adetu refused to completely endorse Peter’s version of the dispute. He said Peter, Paul and Jude all contributed to the problems.
He also blamed excessive third-party interference for escalating the conflict.
“The three of them have their faults in all of this. None of them is without any blame. There was too much third party interference, mostly on the parts of Peter and Paul. Let the conscience of the people I’m talking about judge them. This is just the bitter truth.”
Bayo Adetu praises Jude on the success of P-Square
However, the former publicist gave Jude significant credit for P-Square’s success.
He said Jude introduced financial discipline and handled difficult administrative responsibilities.
“See, P-Square wouldn’t have been this successful without Jude. Even Peter and Paul know this truth. He instilled financial discipline in them and oversaw the most difficult administrative part of their success with so much commitment. He deserves a lot of credit for that.”
Adetu points out Jude’s fault
Still, the former publicist believes Jude made mistakes during the dispute. He particularly criticised Jude for missing Peter’s wedding.
“Jude should have attended Peter’s wedding, no matter what.”

He also believes Jude should have stepped aside earlier as the group’s manager. However, he acknowledged Jude’s legal rights within the group’s existing agreement.
“I also fault Jude for not stepping down as a manager on time when Peter insisted that he should not manage them again. I understand that it was a difficult decision to take, considering the fact that he’s legally a member of the group, with equal rights, as stipulated in the group’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by all parties. I think he should have handled the situation differently.”
