What appeared to be a typical family story took an unexpected turn when a Nigerian businessman revealed a shocking truth about the children he had raised for over two decades.
Lateef Salawu, a Nigerian businessman, has recounted how he discovered that none of the four children he raised for more than 20 years are biologically his.
Salawu shared his story during a recent episode of the Talk To B podcast. He explained that what seemed like a minor disagreement over gifts he bought for his mother triggered the breakdown of what he once considered a happy home with his wife, Sekinat.
According to Salawu, growing tensions during a period of financial hardship eventually led to the couple’s separation. Despite the separation, he said he continued to care for and support all four children for nearly two decades.
Years later, Salawu said his estranged wife sent him a shocking message. According to him, she claimed that the children belonged to her former partner and that he was not their biological father. Although she quickly deleted the messages, Salawu said the revelation stayed with him.
He also claimed that after the disclosure, all four children gradually distanced themselves from him. He said they blocked him on social media and stopped communicating with him.
“I had a happy home. We had no problems or fights; everything just fell apart unexpectedly because I was trying to help my mother. I bought something for my mother, but it appeared that hers was less than mine, which eventually led to our separation,” he said.

“After almost 8 years of separation, she messaged me to say I am not the father of the four children, claiming they belong to her ex. I cared for the children for more than 20 years and accepted full responsibility for them. Within seconds, she had deleted the messages. I’m not sure if it was a threat, but I held onto her words.”
“Following that message, I informed my second child, Tawa, who promptly blocked me until today. The first child is no longer speaking to me, and when I call, she does not answer. The third and last child gradually drifted away. At the moment, none of them are speaking to me.”
Salawu said he did not conduct DNA tests on the children. Instead, he chose to believe his estranged wife’s claim because he believes mothers know the true fathers of their children.
He added that the situation left him emotionally damaged. He said he has decided to distance himself from the children and has told them not to regard him as their father because he no longer wants to maintain a relationship with them.
“I decided to move on with my life after that, so I told the children they no longer needed to see me as their father. Instead of conducting a DNA test, I believed what she said because mothers are the only ones who truly know their children’s father. The children began to behave differently towards me,” he added.
“I’m already damaged; forget about my body. I have given everything to God, and I want them to leave me alone. That’s why I’m making this public: even if I see them, I’m not going to pretend I know them.”
The revelation not only altered his perspective on the past, but it also reshaped his future, leaving him to deal with the fallout from a life-changing discovery.
