A Moroccan woman, Khadija Diab, has spoken publicly about her marriage to Nasir Musa Idris, alleging that the relationship involved abuse, insults and repeated mistreatment.
How Khadija Met Nasir Musa Idris
Khadija explained that she met Nasir Musa Idris through her work in Morocco. They remained in contact for several months before he formally approached her family to seek her hand in marriage.
According to her, they began making arrangements for the marriage shortly afterwards. Nasir returned to Nigeria to prepare some documents, while she completed her work obligations and started processing the paperwork required for an international marriage. 
The couple held their engagement in June and fixed their wedding for October. Nasir later returned to Morocco to finalise the marriage arrangements. Together, they gathered the documents required for a mixed-nationality marriage, a process that Khadija said required considerable time and effort.
Moroccan Court Rejects Marriage Application
Khadija stated that they completed all the documents required by the Moroccan court and proceeded with their application. However, the court rejected the file after officials discovered that Nasir was already married.
She explained that Moroccan law does not generally permit polygamous marriages except under specific circumstances and legal procedures.
Following the rejection, they consulted a private lawyer. According to Khadija, the lawyer advised them to consider marrying in Nigeria because the procedures for obtaining approval for a polygamous marriage in Morocco could take a long time.
Although she and her mother initially rejected the suggestion, they eventually agreed after receiving legal advice. They then travelled to Nigeria with the documents they had prepared in Morocco.
Arrival in Nigeria and Questions Over Marriage Documents
Khadija said the situation changed after she and her mother arrived in Nigeria.
She explained that they visited a court in Abuja and prepared documents that Nasir described as the proper marriage documents. However, after her mother returned to Morocco, their lawyer reviewed the documents and reportedly rejected them.
According to Khadija, the lawyer informed them that the documents did not constitute a valid Islamic marriage contract and could not be recognised as such under Islamic principles.
She stated that Islamic marriage contracts require specific conditions, including witnesses and a clearly stated dowry. She alleged that the documents prepared in Abuja did not contain those essential elements.
Khadija added that the document that later circulated on social media and attracted allegations of forgery was, according to her, the contract that Moroccan authorities eventually accepted.

Allegations of Neglect During Illness
Khadija alleged that Nasir repeatedly refused to take her to hospital when she became ill.
She said she developed a health condition during the first month of their marriage. According to her, Nasir continued to obtain medication from pharmacies instead of taking her to a hospital, despite her worsening condition.
She claimed that she took numerous medications over a two-week period while her health deteriorated significantly. After informing her family about her condition, her mother reportedly intervened and urged Nasir to take her to hospital.
Khadija said doctors later informed her that her condition had become serious.
She further alleged that similar incidents occurred throughout the marriage. During one episode involving food poisoning, she claimed that Nasir sent medication to her through another person. He instructed her on how to use it over the telephone rather than taking her to hospital.
Passport Seizure Allegation
Khadija also alleged that Nasir took possession of her passport shortly after she arrived in Nigeria.
According to her, he said he needed the passport to process residency documentation. However, she claimed that she believed he retained the document to prevent her from leaving or travelling without his knowledge.

Dispute Over Marriage Location
Khadija maintained that the marriage did not take place in Morocco.
She stated that the Moroccan court rejected their application and directed them to follow the legal procedures required for a polygamous marriage. Consequently, she argued that no marriage occurred in Morocco despite claims to the contrary.
According to her, Nasir does not possess any document proving that they married in Morocco.
Claims of Broken Promises and Financial Misrepresentation
Khadija alleged that Nasir misrepresented several aspects of his life before their marriage.
She claimed that he presented a false picture of his work, lifestyle and financial situation. According to her, she began to discover significant differences between his earlier representations and the reality she encountered after moving to Nigeria.
One of her key conditions before marriage involved living in a separate residence from his first wife. She said Nasir agreed to that arrangement before the marriage.
However, she alleged that he failed to prepare a separate home before her arrival. As a result, she and her mother reportedly stayed in a hotel for two weeks while waiting for accommodation.
She claimed that Nasir repeatedly encouraged her to live with his first wife, a proposal she rejected because it contradicted their earlier agreement.
According to Khadija, Nasir eventually rented a house but failed to furnish it adequately. She alleged that he provided only old furniture and refused to purchase essential household items.
She specifically claimed that she spent an entire year washing her clothes by hand because he refused to buy a washing machine.
Relationship With Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar
Khadija said Nasir introduced her and her mother to Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar, whom he described as a respected figure and mentor.
According to her, her mother entrusted the Sheikh with supporting and guiding her while she lived in Nigeria.
She said Nasir often took her to visit the Sheikh’s family during Eid celebrations and other occasions to help her become familiar with Nigerian culture.
Separation and Mediation Efforts
Khadija said the Sheikh later became involved in attempts to resolve disputes within the marriage.
She alleged that Nasir once left her outside the Sheikh’s residence following an argument and drove away without attempting to resolve the situation.
According to her, that incident convinced her that she could no longer continue the marriage. She claimed that the Sheikh intervened several times and even offered financial assistance so that she could purchase household necessities.
Khadija further alleged that the Sheikh repeatedly encouraged reconciliation and personally inspected the house to assess her concerns. However, she claimed that Nasir rejected those efforts and refused to meet her requests or address the issues she raised.
Decision to Leave the Marriage
Khadija said she eventually packed her belongings in the presence of the Sheikh and his wife and decided to leave the matrimonial home.
According to her, she told them that she could no longer live with Nasir and preferred to leave rather than remain in the marriage.
She subsequently moved into the Sheikh’s residence while mediation efforts continued. Khadija stated that the Sheikh and his family repeatedly attempted to reconcile the couple. However, she said she rejected reconciliation and chose instead to pursue legal action.
Divorce Proceedings and Return to Morocco
Khadija explained that she initially filed for divorce through Barrister Bilkis on the basis of harm suffered during the marriage.
She attended more than five court hearings, she said, but the case failed to progress because the opposing party allegedly did not participate meaningfully in the proceedings.
As a result, she and her lawyer decided to discontinue that case and pursue a divorce through Khul’, an Islamic legal process that allows a wife to obtain a divorce by returning her dowry or offering financial compensation.
Khadija said she returned to Morocco six months ago and now lives with her family. She rejected claims that she remains detained or restricted and described those allegations as false.
According to her, she experienced restrictions while living in Nigeria with Nasir but now enjoys freedom and stability in Morocco.
She concluded by stating that she currently enjoys good physical and mental health and lives freely with her family.
