Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu. The celebrated singer shared the news on social media, describing the development as a deeply personal transition.
Ekiye, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta”, said the marriage ended a year ago, 2025. However, he explained that he delayed the announcement to gain clarity and acceptance.
Ekiye Announces Marriage Has Ended
In his statement, Ekiye said his marriage had come to an end after 28 years. He described the period as a journey filled with growth, experiences and reflection.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end,” he wrote.
The singer said he decided to close that chapter with grace and dignity. He also expressed gratitude for the experiences the marriage brought him. According to Ekiye, he now looks forward to a new phase of his life.
Why Asu Ekiye delayed his marriage breakup announcement
The gospel singer revealed that the marriage actually ended in 2025. However, he deliberately chose not to make the development public immediately. He said he needed time to process the change before speaking publicly.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” he stated.
The singer explained that the additional time allowed him to gain perspective. He also said it helped him achieve clarity and quiet acceptance. Consequently, Ekiye presented the announcement as a considered decision rather than an emotional reaction.

A New Chapter After 28 Years
The singer described the end of his marriage as the closing of an important chapter. Despite the separation, his statement maintained a respectful and measured tone. He avoided discussing the circumstances surrounding the marriage’s end. Instead, he focused on gratitude and the possibilities ahead.
“I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity,” he said.
Ekiye also expressed optimism about what the future may hold. His announcement has since attracted reactions from fans and members of the gospel music community.
