Francis Duru: Earlier Health Rumours Sparked Concern
Duru’s death comes months after he dismissed rumours that he was battling a terminal illness.
In June 2026, a video showing him looking frail circulated online, prompting concern among fans and colleagues. The actor responded in an Instagram video, describing the footage as “fabricated and malicious”. He urged the public to disregard the reports and insisted that the claims did not reflect his actual condition.
His death has renewed attention on those earlier rumours, although his family’s announcement cited only a brief illness and did not identify a specific cause.
Family Life and a Painful Personal Loss
Duru married his wife, Adokiye, in 2003, and they had four children together.
The actor suffered a devastating family loss in August 2024 when his 15-year-old son, Ifeanyi, died. Duru announced the tragedy on Instagram, remembering his son as a fighter.
“My champ! My lion, you fought like a lion,” he wrote in a heartfelt tribute.
He later spoke about continuing his professional and personal responsibilities despite the pain of losing his child.
Duru’s death marks the loss of a veteran whose work helped shape Nigerian film and television for more than three decades. Tributes from colleagues, fans and industry figures are expected to continue as the family mourns his passing.
