Sharon Ademefun, the elder sister of Nigerian singer Davido, has revealed that she did not realise her family was wealthy until she moved to Nigeria at 21.
The businesswoman shared this during an appearance on The Fashion Roundtable podcast, hosted by Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi.
Despite growing up in a comfortable home, Sharon said her father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, ensured his children lived relatively modest lives. She explained that she started working while still in school because her father gave them enough money for their needs, rather than excessive spending money.
Sharon Earned £5 Weekly Cleaning School Changing Rooms
Sharon recalled taking up small jobs to earn extra money during her school years.
“I didn’t know we had money until I was 21 and moved to Nigeria,” she said.
She explained that she earned £5 weekly by cleaning school changing rooms. She also worked as a babysitter for about five years. According to her, the experience taught her independence and shaped her understanding of money.
“I feel like having too much can make you a lazy person. You can pay someone to do the job,” she said.

‘We Lived a Very Normal Life’ – Sharon Ademefun
Sharon said her family enjoyed comfortable accommodation and holidays but did not live the extravagant lifestyle people associate with wealthy families today. She recalled that they went on regular holidays, including trips to Disney, where her father queued like other visitors.
“There was no private jet. There was no G-Wagon. It was normal. It was above average,” she explained.
Although the family had a nice house and comfortable rooms, she said she never considered them exceptionally wealthy.
Five Years of Babysitting Inspired Her Business
Sharon also revealed that she worked professionally as a babysitter until her final year in college. She said the experience inspired her to establish a creche because she had spent five years caring for babies.
Her perspective on her family’s wealth changed after she returned to Nigeria. People began telling her that her family was rich, prompting her to ask her father directly. However, she said Adedeji did not explicitly confirm it.
Sharon Ademefun Jokes About Her Father’s Wealth
Sharon described her father as a relaxed person who never made wealth a major topic at home. She also joked about his changing attitude towards money when speaking to her children. According to her, he now encourages them to embrace their success and recognise their family’s wealth.
Her revelation echoes Davido’s earlier account that he only discovered his father’s wealth at 13, highlighting how differently the siblings experienced their privileged upbringing.
She maintained that although she believes she might have become a better businessperson under different circumstances, that does not mean she is not successful in business today.
