The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a formal clarification. It concerns a viral list claiming to identify about 200 products in the Nigerian market as fake.
In a press release dated October 9, 2026, NAFDAC stated that the viral list did not originate from the Agency. It says that the land should not be regarded as an official regulatory alert, recall notice or safety communication.
Official Position of NAFDAC on the Viral List of Fake Products
NAFDAC emphasised that it does not declare products fake, adulterated or unsafe without completing established regulatory processes. The processes include investigation, sampling and, where necessary, scientific laboratory verification.
NAFDAC says it provides clear details of the affected product and the regulatory action taken. It is then published only through its authorised communication channels.
It adds that the mere appearance of a product’s name or photograph on a social media list does not officially mean the product is fake or unsafe.

Implications for Consumers and Businesses
The Agency noted that the circulation of such unverified information can generate unnecessary public concern. It can also unfairly damage the reputation and commercial interests of legitimate manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
NAFDAC therefore advises consumers to disregard the viral list in its entirety and to refrain from sharing or amplifying the information.
Guidance for the Public
NAFDAC urges Nigerians to rely exclusively on its official channels for accurate information regarding product alerts, recalls, withdrawals, suspensions and other regulatory actions.
The official contact details for enquiries is 0700-1-NAFDAC (0700-1-623322), while 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322) is for complaints. Emails, on the other hand, should go to st.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
While the Agency continues its routine market surveillance and enforcement activities against counterfeit and substandard products, it has made clear that this particular circulating list is not an official publication and should not be treated as such.
