At a time when many people slow down and settle into retirement, Nigerian lawyer Olanrewaju Adeojo chose a different path. Four decades after he first achieved his dream of becoming a lawyer in Nigeria, he set out to conquer a new challenge in a different country: Canada. His determination, resilience, and love for the legal profession led him to a remarkable achievement that has inspired many.

Olanrewaju Adeojo became the oldest lawyer to be called to the Bar in Manitoba, Canada, in 2026. This achievement came exactly 40 years after he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986.

After moving to Canada in 2017, Adeojo faced a difficult decision. Many people advised him to leave his legal career behind and pursue a simpler path, believing that qualifying as a lawyer in a new country at his age would be too challenging. However, Adeojo refused to give up on the profession he loved.

In 2022, he began the demanding process of qualifying to practise law in Manitoba. He devoted countless hours to studying, preparing for examinations, and meeting the requirements needed to earn his licence. He remained focused on his goal, tackling every challenge with determination and continuing to move forward while others doubted his chances of success.

His daughter, who shared the story on LinkedIn, described her father as the very definition of resilience and hard work. She expressed immense pride in witnessing his dedication, late nights of study, and unwavering faith throughout the process.

Adeojo daughter also thanked those who supported him along the way, including legal professional Bim Akin, who provided the articling opportunity required to complete the qualification process. She equally acknowledged her mother for being a constant source of support throughout the journey.

Adeojo’s story serves as a reminder that age does not limit ambition. His achievement proves that people can pursue their dreams at any stage of life if they remain committed to their goals. Forty years after his first call to the Bar, he showed that determination and passion can keep a dream alive and make it even stronger.
