Nigerian food content creator Ify Mogekwu, popularly known as Ify’s Kitchen, has shared her inspiring journey through infertility and her eventual success with IVF after eight years of marriage.
Speaking on the Dear Ife series by Diary of a Naija Girl, Ify opened up about the emotional challenges she faced while trying to conceive and how persistence helped her achieve her dream of becoming a mother.
According to Ify, a conversation with a colleague changed her mindset during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“A colleague called me to the conference room one day and asked what I was doing about my situation,” she recalled.
“I explained everything I had tried. She then told me to treat it like a project and not stop until I got what I wanted.”
Inspired by those words, Ify became determined to keep pushing forward despite several setbacks.
She revealed that she underwent multiple IVF procedures. After her second attempt failed, she tried again, but the third IVF cycle was also unsuccessful. At that point, she considered giving up. However, she remembered her colleague’s advice and decided to try one more time.
“The words stayed with me. I kept telling myself that I couldn’t stop until I got what I wanted,” she said.
Her determination paid off when the fourth IVF attempt succeeded.

During the embryo transfer, the doctor implanted three embryos. Although she suggested transferring two embryos, the doctor insisted that transferring three was the standard practice at the hospital.
Two weeks later, she took a pregnancy test and saw a positive result. Despite the good news, she remained cautious until her doctor confirmed the pregnancy.
“I wasn’t fully excited at first because I wanted the doctor to confirm it. Once the doctor confirmed the pregnancy, I felt relieved and truly happy,” she said.
The journey still came with uncertainties. During her first scan, doctors informed her that the babies were developing well but warned that one of them might not survive. While the news was difficult, Ify focused on the positive possibility of having at least one healthy baby.
Later, she transferred her antenatal care to a hospital closer to her home because her previous hospital was located far away.
At her first appointment at the new hospital, she received an unexpected surprise.
“The doctors congratulated me and told me I was carrying twins,” she said.
The news shocked her because she had previously been told that one of the babies might not survive.
Ify’s story highlights the emotional and physical challenges many couples face during infertility struggles. Her experience also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, hope, and perseverance in the face of setbacks.
