Bode Abifarin has assumed the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MoMo Payment Service Bank. Her appointment took effect on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
She now leads MTN Nigeria’s fintech business at a crucial time. The move comes as MTN strengthens its ambitions in digital financial services.
Abifarin brings more than 23 years of experience across fintech and financial services. She also has extensive experience in digital payments, consulting and business transformation.
Abifarin Brings Extensive Industry Experience
Before joining MoMo PSB, Bode Abifarin served as Chief Operating Officer at Flutterwave. During her tenure, she helped scale operations across several markets. She also developed operating models and strengthened relationships with regulators.
Before Flutterwave, Abifarin spent 15 years at KPMG. There, she advised financial institutions and other organisations across Africa.
She later founded Strata Advisory, a technology-focused consultancy.
Her career has therefore covered both financial transformation and fintech operations.
Now, she will apply that experience to MoMo PSB’s next phase of growth.

Bode Abifarin Takes Charge Amid MTN’s Fintech Restructuring
Her appointment comes as MTN reorganises its financial-services operations.
In April 2026, MTN Nigeria announced plans to sell a 60% stake in MoMo PSB. The proposed deal also covers Y’ello Digital Financial Services.
MTN Group would acquire the stake for ₦152.06 billion, while MTN Nigeria would retain 40%. The restructuring aims to create a more focused fintech operation within MTN Group.
Consequently, Abifarin takes charge as the business prepares for broader financial-services opportunities.
MTN Group has also signalled plans to explore banking licences in selected markets. The group sees lending as a major opportunity for future growth.
That strategy could take its financial-services offering beyond payments and digital wallets.

Bode Abifarin Faces Big Fintech Opportunity
MoMo PSB already benefits from MTN’s extensive customer base and distribution network. Therefore, Abifarin’s immediate challenge will involve turning that reach into greater financial inclusion.
She will also seek to expand digital services for individuals and businesses. Her leadership could shape how millions of Nigerians save, transact and access financial services.
At the Leading Ladies Africa Leadership by Inclusion Summit, she said:
“Wealth creation begins with opportunity, and opportunity thrives where policies empower women.”
Her new role places that philosophy at the heart of a major financial-services platform. With MTN expanding its fintech ambitions, expectations will be high.
For Abifarin, the task now is to transform opportunity into sustainable digital financial growth.
