In an age where every meal, every outing, and every family moment is turned into content for social media, a select group of Nigerian celebrities stands out by doing the opposite.
These artists and actors promote their craft with professionalism, yet they draw a firm line around their personal lives. Their feeds and public appearances are largely about either their movies, music, projects, advocacy, or the occasional stylish and motivational post. The rest are kept to themselves and the public to imagine. In interviews over the years, they have spoken clearly about why.

Kate Henshaw
Kate Henshaw has always made it known that to her, privacy is non-negotiable.
The veteran actress was married to British-born Roderick James Nuttal from 1999 until their divorce in 2011, and they have a daughter together. However, for years, she has kept her completely out of the public eye.
In an interview with Vanguard Allure in 2022, she bluntly said,
“My daughter is my business. It’s private. I choose to have a line dividing privacy and public show-off of whatever… I choose to keep her away from the public eye as a personal choice.”
More recently, on the Tea With Tay podcast, Henshaw confirmed that her daughter is mixed-race and based abroad. However, she revealed that a photo she once posted online was an experiment to show how quickly images spread and how little real information exists.

Genevieve Nnaji
Genevieve Nnaji’s discretion is almost mythical. She became a mother as a teenager to her daughter, Theodora Chimebuka Nnaji, in 1996.
In a 2014 appearance on Olisa Adibua’s The Truth programme, Genevieve explained her long-standing refusal to discuss her daughter:
“I don’t answer such questions because that is a part of me that existed way before people got to know about Genevieve, so that’s why it’s private. That is a part of me that I have going for me because after that I didn’t own my life anymore.”
Her social media presence is erratic; her Instagram account has approximately 7.9 million followers, but her posts are infrequent and carefully chosen. She posts pictures from occasional event appearances, New Year wishes, or simple acknowledgments.
On her social media accounts, long stretches of silence are common. She promotes films and projects when needed but offers almost nothing about relationships, daily routines, or family.

Omowunmi Dada
Omowunmi Dada has built a career marked by strong performances and void of controversies. She keeps personal details firmly offline.
In interviews with Vanguard Allure and Punch, she has repeatedly emphasized the same principle:
“I keep my private life private, and whatever I put on social media are the things that I want to be out there.”
Her social media serves her work-project promotions, thoughtful reflections, and connection with fans and not her personal diary.
Asa
Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, has spent years in the international spotlight while remaining exceptionally guarded about her personal life. The singer who is unmarried, has spoken candidly about valuing solitude.
On Ndani TV’s The Juice with Bolanle Olukanni, she said she has grown to be “selfish” about her personal space. She explained that she needed her early-morning alone time that past relationships struggled to accommodate.
Her social media and public comments center on her music, artistry, and thoughtful observation, rather than romantic updates or family details.
Asa moves in silence when it comes to the personal; instead, she allows her songs to do the talking.
Uzor Arukwe
Actor Uzor Arukwe has been expressive about his choice regarding privacy.
The award-winning actor is married to Barbara Boyd-Arukwe, with whom he has two daughters. He deliberately keeps his family out of the public eye. His presence online is more of a professional portfolio than a personal space.
In interviews, including one with Chude Jideonwo and another reported by The Nation, he has said:
“It was a very deliberate act because I wanted to keep my family away from my work… I felt they wouldn’t be able to live their normal lives if I brought them into the public eye, and I just didn’t want that for them. My wife prefers to do her thing and be a normal person.”
He has also pointed out that he grew up watching legends like Peter Edochie and Ramsey Nouah, whose partners and children were rarely on display, and he wants the same normalcy for his own children. “They did not choose this life. I did.”
His social media focuses on acting work, professional updates, and measured personal sharing that never compromises his family’s privacy.
Ruth Kadiri
Ruth Kadiri, actress, screenwriter, and producer, has been equally clear. Married (to a husband she does not publicly name or regularly feature) and a mother of two daughters (Reign and Emerald), she posts about her children only sparingly—usually on birthdays-and keeps her spouse largely off her platforms.
