Lionel Richie checked himself into a St. Louis hospital intensive care unit after his concert on Saturday, 29 August 2026.
The 77-year-old music legend was performing at The Muny in Forest Park when he appeared to struggle toward the end of the concert.
Spectators explained that they had noticed his discomfort as he had leaned on the piano for support at one point. He had later asked his team to bring him a chair so he could sit down as he was performing his final song that night, “All Night Long.” 
After the show, Richie admitted himself to the local hospital for tests. Sources told TMZ that doctors were looking into possible mild dehydration and that the singer was taking a cautious approach. He was reportedly hoping to be discharged around Tuesday.

The Second Health Scare from Richie this Year
This is the second on-stage health scare from Richie during his current “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
In June, he cut short the opening night of the tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, after reportedly feeling dizzy.
He sat down during “Dancing on the Ceiling” before he left the stage and was taken to the hospital. Because of this, two subsequent shows in Chicago and Columbus were postponed while doctors advised him to rest.
Richie has spoken openly about dehydration issues during recent performances. He told audiences that he had been diagnosed with it. Richie even joked about needing electrolytes between songs to stay fit.
The news comes at a particularly heavy moment for music and entertainment fans.
August 2026 saw the loss of several major talents, including country icon Dolly Parton, Rocky Horror Picture Show star Tim Curry, actress Hayden Panettiere, and others.
In this context, any health scare involving a beloved veteran performer like Richie will naturally raise extra concern.
