Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has shared an experience involving an unnamed influencer while speaking at the CANEX Creative Africa Nexus.
Funke Akindele Says an Influencer Ignored Her Paid Promotion Request
According to Funke Akindele, she reached out to the influencer about a paid promotional deal, but the influencer ignored her message. She felt disbelief when the influencer later went online and claimed that Funke had blocked her. She said:
“There was one influencer that I reached out to. I sent a message to this pretty influencer, I said, ‘Oh, I would like to create content with you.’ She didn’t reply, and I didn’t want to send this message. This was when I was promoting ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, but I tried. I sent the message. The person replied to me and said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, the management do not want me to do this.’”

Influencer Went Silent After Actress Offered to Pay for Her Time and Content
Akindele insisted that she would pay to make content with the influencer, but the influencer ignored her after she made clear that she would pay for her time and content. She did not mention the influencer’s name.
“I said, ‘Please, I’ll pay.’ The person ignored me. Months after, I read that I blocked somebody because of this.”

Nollywood Actress Uses the Story to Urge Creatives Never to Give Up on Their Dreams
Funke Akindele shared the story to inspire everyone at the event not to back down on their dreams, even when they think there is no way forward or when people say negative things about them. She stressed that what matters most is that they believe in themselves and their dreams, no matter what happens along the way.
“Do you know why I’m sharing this? Even when they say negative things to you, when they tell you that you don’t know how to do it, when they tell you they are tired of you, look into the mirror and ask, ‘Am I tired of myself? Do I still believe in my dreams?’”
