The Yoruba film industry has suffered another painful loss following the death of actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem. Her death came days after the passing of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Both deaths have renewed concerns about the devastating impact of cancer.
Atinuke reportedly battled breast cancer for an extended period. She also sought financial assistance while receiving treatment. 
Atinuke Kareem Dies After Cancer Battle
The Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) announced Atinuke’s death.
Her death was announced on Tuesday, September 1, following her prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Owolabi Ajasa, TAMPAN’s Ogun State governor, shared a video of the actress seeking public assistance. In the video, Atinuke appealed for help as her family and friends struggled to fund her treatment.
She also revealed that she had two young children. Atinuke expressed fears about leaving them without their mother’s care.
Sadly, her condition worsened despite efforts to support her treatment.
TAMPAN Mourns Actress, Appreciates Donors
Ajasa described Atinuke’s death as a painful loss for the Yoruba entertainment community. TAMPAN also acknowledged those who supported the actress during her illness.
In a statement titled, “Painful Loss & Appreciation,” the association expressed gratitude to her supporters.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers, encouragement, and support,” the statement read.
The association said their kindness meant greatly to Atinuke’s family and colleagues.
“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call,” it added.
The group also prayed for strength for her family, friends and colleagues.
Kareem was a strong member of the Ogun State chapter of TAMPAN. She was elected and sworn in as the chairman of TAMPAN Abeokuta South-west Local Government in 2021.

Atinuke’s Death Comes After Ogogo’s Passing
Atinuke’s death came just a day after Ogogo’s eighth-day Fidau prayer. The veteran actor died after complications linked to cancer. His family, friends and colleagues gathered in Ilaro, Ogun State, for the Islamic prayer.
Therefore, Atinuke’s death has deepened the grief within the Yoruba film industry.
Her passing also highlights the struggles faced by patients seeking prolonged cancer treatment.
Although Atinuke’s battle has ended, her story remains a painful reminder of cancer’s devastating impact.
She leaves behind two children, family members, colleagues and loved ones.
