Voluntary exits are almost unheard of in Big Brother Naija. Since it began nearly two decades ago, only three housemates have voluntarily walked out of the Big Brother House.

Kayvee was the first, in Season 6 (Shine Ya Eye, 2021). He left for medical/mental health reasons after struggling with the pressure and isolation in the house.

Sabrina followed in Season 10 (10/10). Sabrina Idukpaye requested to leave because of persistent leg pain.

Neche’s Shocking Timing

What makes her exit different is the timing. The 25-year-old lawyer and entrepreneur from Anambra State had just been crowned Head of House for Week 3. That meant she was immune from eviction.

Fans celebrated her for her beauty, confidence, and fun energy, and seemingly in full control of the game. However, shortly after that Sunday’s live eviction show, she gathered the remaining housemates in the lounge, removed her microphone and name tag, and announced that she was leaving.

As later confirmed by the organisers of the reality show, her exit was voluntary and driven by “pressing personal matters.”

Why Neche Left the BBNaija House

In a recent interview with NBG Africa, Neche explained her decision more personally:

“Um, a lot was happening behind the scenes. So, I might not be able to talk about some now, but, regardless of everything, I feel like I made a decision that best suited me at that point in time, for my well-being.”

“There’s not mainly one reason as to that. It was just a combination of a whole lot of things, and I just knew it was time to take a bow, you know, pretty much that.” Although she was made Head of House, Neche says she preferred veto power.

“Don’t Get Soaked In Like Me”

Neche advised the remaining housemates to keep going but not get soaked in the game.

“Don’t get soaked in like me; go headstrong. Always just try to give it your best. You know, at the end of the day. So when you come out, you look back, you have no regrets. That’s it.”

She’s grateful to her fans for the support shown to her and her brand. She urges them to look forward to seeing more from her.

“Just wait up for my pop-ups and for my amazing pieces for the girlies to look good,” she said.

Neche’s three-week stay ended with a rare and deliberate choice. She joined a very small group of housemates who walked away from the ₦160 million prize and the spotlight.
