The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is one of the most anticipated celebrations in Africa. Today, May 6, marks the Young Filmmakers’ Day in the film industry. This celebration intentionally highlights young filmmakers who invest creativity and talent into stories that feel real, captivating, authentic, and impactful.
It is a beautiful scene at the event, with brands like MTN, Johnnie Walker, Indomie, Lush, and Malta Guinesss sponsoring and contributing to making the occasion memorable for all attendees. The organisers of the Young Filmmakers’ Day designed the theme, “Audacious Storytelling and Attracting the Right Opportunities,” to prepare and nurture emerging actors and filmmakers as they enter the industry.

Uche Jombo, an extraordinary veteran actress, was present to celebrate the day. Speaking on the theme, she encouraged filmmakers to join creative communities and emphasized that like-minded individuals help them grow better.
She also highlighted that consistency is key in filmmaking and stressed that social media plays a major role in helping talents build visibility through monologues and consistent content showcasing.
She advised young filmmakers to take advantage of every opportunity available to them. Uche Jombo further emphasised the importance of audacity in filmmaking, noting that when opportunities arise, preparation and boldness make it easier to seize them.

Uche Jombo also shared her personal journey to inspire the young filmmakers in attendance. She explained that the movie Games Men Play marked a turning point in her career because of its authenticity and strong storytelling, which reinforced the importance of meaningful narratives in the industry.
She encouraged young filmmakers to remain focused on their craft and prioritise developing their talent. Uche Jombo stressed that emerging talents who are not yet recognised should consistently upload their monologues and creative works on social media to help audiences discover their abilities.
She added that opportunities often come to those who consistently put their work out there.
Uche Jombo mentioned that “talent can take you far, but your code of conduct is paramount, as it will serve filmmakers in the long term.”
A question was raised about her “superpower” and how she has remained relevant in the industry. She responded by saying that every filmmaker should reinvent themselves every five years. She explained that this practice is important because it prevents stagnation, reduces creative boredom, and allows filmmakers to continue evolving in their craft.
