A midweek Champions League betting frenzy, a sudden ₦5 million alert and a deep crack in their relationship. Let’s get into another edition of ‘Love and Delulu.’
See, this is a new year oo, and that rubbish of “his money is our money; my money is my money” has to end ASAP. Because what is this nonsense? Did I come to this life to work and feed my family alone? Who thinks of me? If not for my two children, I would walk out of this marriage without looking back, because this is not love at all.
It All Started …
On Wednesday, during that UEFA Champions League night when about 18 games were being played at once.
As you know, there was a serious betting frenzy everywhere. Me, I don’t bet because of my Catholic faith, but I have nothing against people who do. My wife’s brother stays with us, and he bets steadily. As e dey chop, na so dem dey chop am.
That evening, I was there when he started convincing my wife to stake ₦50,000 on about 100 odds to win millions.

She asked me if she should bet. I told her no, but if she wanted to go ahead, she should feel free.
I watched as she transferred the money to her brother. She even warned him seriously that she must get her millions oo. I was laughing, playfully mocking her that her ₦50k had entered voicemail.
The Bet and the Shock of the Night
By past 11pm, my brother-in-law suddenly screamed. We rushed into the sitting room.
Next thing, he hugged my wife and lifted her up. I said, shuooo, what is happening? He was shaking with excitement, showing her his phone and shouting, “You won ₦5m! You won ₦5m!”
Sleep cleared from my eyes immediately.
I asked him, “My wife won ₦5m?” He said yes.
At that point, she almost lost her mind from excitement. She was dancing, rolling on the floor, and jumping everywhere.

I was happy too. Beginner’s luck, or whatever they call it.
Funny enough, my brother-in-law didn’t win anything himself.
That night, she couldn’t sleep. She was talking non-stop, but I understood. It’s ₦5m, after all.

My Pain…
The next day, her brother had transferred the money to her and naturally, I expected she would send me something as her husband.
Because if I won ₦5m, it would go without saying, abi?
My brothers and sisters, till today, ooo, nothing! Has she been cooking delicacies since she became a millionaire? Yes. I also noticed that she has been shopping for the house and children.
But what about me? Can’t she bring out ₦50k to say,“My husband, take this one?” Is it too much to ask?
Okay, maybe it is. Data nko? ₦5k data?

Am I supposed to ask her? Does she ask me before I do my responsibilities in this house? She knows about the family project. So why can’t she say, “My husband, take ₦1m and add to it?”
Come on now, let’s be reasonable.
This thing has made me very bitter towards her. She keeps asking what’s wrong, but I’m just keeping it cool.
Why This Hurts So Much
I don’t cheat. I don’t smoke. I drink occasionally. I am a responsible husband and father. The car she’s using, I bought it after the birth of our second child. What have I not done for this woman?
Her stinginess makes me want to leave the house for her so she can finish the ₦5m, remember me, and start asking me for money again. Then I will show her shege.
Even then, I can’t do that.
Truth is, I love my wife, but she is stingy, and it bothers me so much. It affects how I see the money dynamics in this house.
This is not a 50/50 household. This is 100/0.
God has blessed me with the power to provide everything for my family. So do you see why this hurts?
It hurts. I can’t lie.
