A 40-year-old British mother, Claire Chadwick, who left the UK to start a new life in Nigeria with her husband, has tragically died alongside her unborn baby girl. This has left her family devastated and racing to raise funds to bring their bodies home.

What Happened to Claire Chadwick?

Claire Chadwick, originally from Cardiff/Wales, was 37 weeks pregnant when her baby died in the womb. She then developed sepsis and died from septic shock.

Septic shock is a medical emergency that happens when a severe infection spreads through the body and causes a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

The “funny” and “fiercely strong-minded” mum had moved to Nigeria to be with her husband, Ibrahim. Chadwick and Ibrahim had built a following of thousands on TikTok and Instagram, regularly sharing videos about food challenges, their faith, and their relationship.

Chadwick is survived by her 19-year-old son, who lives in Wales, her husband Ibrahim, and wider family who “loved her dearly.” Her sister Shannon described her as a woman who “lived her life in her own way”. Her sister noted that Chadwick would leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She also recalled Chadwick’s huge personality. She said she loved dancing, being silly, and never particularly cared what anyone thought of her.

Claire Chadwick’s Family Appeal

The family’s priority now is bringing Chadwick and her unborn daughter roughly 3,000 miles back to the UK so they can be laid to rest with dignity.

Hence, Shannon launched a GoFundMe appeal targeting £10,000 to cover the complex and costly international repatriation and legal processes.

The response has already been described as “overwhelming,” and the family has thanked the charity REST, which supports bereaved families of those who die suddenly or tragically abroad.

Tributes have poured in, remembering Chadwick as lovely, kind, beautiful, and someone who always made people laugh.
