The Apostolic Church Ghana (TAC-GH) has officially banned the “kiss the bride” moment during wedding ceremonies.

In an article released on its website on March 28, 2026, the ban was approved by the Council of Apostles and Prophets (CAP) on the same day, at its 6th General Council Meeting held at the TAC Conference Centre, Fafraha, Accra.

Apostle Dr. Aaron Nartey Ami-Narh, the President of TAC-GH,  said the decision was made to stop some wedding behaviour that has become too excessive or inappropriate, especially those that don’t fit with Ghanaian culture and religious values.

The CAP added that although kissing the bride at the altar may be normal in Western cultures, it does not match the values that the Church stands for.

They did not stop at banning the kiss-the-bride moment alone. They also warned members  “from engaging in awkward and immoral pre-wedding photoshoots often displayed by couples intending to marry.”

The article further stated that delegates welcomed the announcement with loud applause and cheers, expressing their support for the decision as a way to protect young people from the negative influence and excesses of social media.

Kissing the bride is a marriage practice rooted in the Catholic tradition where a kiss legally seals contracts. It therefore signifies the official beginning of marriage.

Oftentimes, the couples look forward to this moment to share their first kiss on the altar. Also, well-wishers at wedding ceremonies look forward to witnessing this gracious moment.

Now that it has been banned by TAC-GH, couples who are members of the denomination, and also, well-wishers don’t have this to look forward to.
