“Love from Florida, where Onobiren won Best Foreign Film at the International Christian Film and Music Festival @icff.family last night,” she wrote with pictures and videos from the event.

This win isn’t only huge for its cast and crew. It is for Nollywood, especially for stories that centre on faith, resilience, and the strength of African women.

Onobiren is about Roli, a woman navigating tradition, expectations, and her own path in a way that feels deeply relatable. From her Warri roots to the realities of Lagos, the movie has been packing cinemas and touching hearts across Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.  The film, with lead cast Ruby Akubueze, includes veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, along with Bisola Aiyeola, Deyemi Okanlawon, Norbert Young, Desmond Bryce, and Chude Jideonwo.

Winning on an international stage shows that our stories deserve global stages. It’s proof that faith-driven cinema with authentic African voices can compete and win anywhere.

The film’s success at the box office and now internationally proves audiences crave real, inspiring content. It stole our hearts and still smashed records.

After a powerful seven-week run in cinemas, Onobiren: A Woman’s Story officially cemented its place as one of Nollywood’s biggest hits of 2026. The film dominated the West African box office, raking in a massive ₦138.1 million.

From its release, it was clear this movie was special.

It scored the most outstanding cinema debut of 2026, landed in the top 3 Nollywood releases this year, and held the number one spot across West Africa for two straight weeks. It’s the highest-grossing March 2026 release and the highest-grossing film about women.

That’s not all. It scored as the highest-grossing South-South film, the highest-grossing faith-based film, and the highest-grossing film by a non-actor producer. Onobiren broke barrier after barrier.

The movie crossed the coveted ₦100 million mark in just three weeks and currently boasts an impressive 9.1 rating on IMDb. What better proof that audiences connected deeply with its story?
