A Nigerian Muslim father, Taoheed Abdulwasiu Mustapha, has sparked conversations on social media after publicly stating that he would willingly give his daughter in marriage to a Christian or a traditional worshipper if the person possesses good character and comes from a respectable family.
Mustapha shared his views in a Facebook post, where he explained that religion would not determine whether he approves of a potential husband for his daughter.
Instead, he said he would focus on the individual’s upbringing, moral values, and ability to provide a stable livelihood.
According to him, any man interested in marrying his daughter would receive a fair hearing regardless of his religious background.
He stressed that he would welcome a Christian or a traditional worshipper who demonstrates integrity, responsibility, and respect for others.
“If you’re a Christian or a traditional believer and you’re interested in asking for my daughter’s hand in marriage, you’re welcome to come forward,” he wrote.
Mustapha explained that he places humanity above religious differences. He said he does not subscribe to any religious teaching or interpretation that encourages hatred, discrimination, or hostility toward people who practise different faiths.

He maintained that people should judge others by their character and actions rather than by their religious affiliations.
The Muslim father also used his post to criticise religious intolerance, which he believes continues to divide communities across Africa. He urged people to embrace unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence despite differences in faith.
According to him, society would become more harmonious if people focused on shared values such as honesty, compassion, and respect instead of allowing religion to create barriers between them.
Mustapha further stated that every individual deserves dignity and respect regardless of their beliefs. He argued that religious differences should not prevent families from building healthy relationships when the people involved demonstrate good morals and genuine intentions.
His remarks have since generated discussions online, with many social media users sharing differing opinions on interfaith marriages and religious tolerance.
While some praised his open-minded stance and commitment to peaceful coexistence, others questioned whether such an approach aligns with traditional religious expectations.
Despite the reactions, Mustapha maintained that criticism would not change his belief in treating people from all faiths with fairness and respect.
