Afrobeats star Davido has become embroiled in a fresh controversy with Apostle Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Digital Media. He claimed Davido had been banned from performing in Edo.
Chukwu also issued a threatening warning against the singer if he visited the state. His comments followed Davido’s reported mockery of the governor and his family over his role in the Osun State Election.
The dispute has since drawn reactions from Davido’s team and social media users.
Kassy Chukwu threatens Davido not to come to Edo
He alleged that the Osun State election results Davido was posting online were AI generated. Chukwu noted that Edo youths are angry with the singer and will deal with im if he set foot in the state and that if he dares to come, he will face the consequence. He also warned Davido not to come to the state because the state does not habour cultist.
Chukwu urged event promoters to stop booking Davido for shows in Edo State. He also warned the singer against visiting the state for performances.
“If we catch you, we will tell boys to remove your teeth with slaps,” Chukwu said.
He blamed Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, for the singer’s alleged comments. Chukwu questioned why Israel, an Edo indigene, would support Davido’s actions against the governor.

The remarks quickly triggered reactions across social media. Some users mocked Chukwu through memes and other posts. Others expressed concern about the violent language used by a government aide and an apostle.
The controversy also gained attention because Davido’s late mother hailed from Edo State.

Israel DMW Hits Back
Israel DMW has since responded to Chukwu’s remarks via his Instagram handle. He challenged the aide’s claim to speak on behalf of Edo residents. Israel also alleged that Chukwu originated from Ebonyi State rather than Edo State.
“He’s from Ebonyi State, and not from Edo,” Israel wrote.
He further accused Chukwu of becoming a nuisance after settling in Benin City. Israel also attacked Chukwu’s religious credentials and political affiliation.
“An APC fake pastor, a cum pastor. A beer parlour pastor,” he said.
His response added another layer to the already heated exchange.

‘Davido’s maternal home’
Israel also urged Edo residents to disregard Chukwu’s threat against Davido. He insisted that nobody could prevent the singer from visiting his maternal home.
“Kindly disregard what he’s saying. He’s not speaking for we Edolites. No man on this planet earth can ban oga from Edo, his maternal home,” Israel said.
The exchange has raised questions about how government representatives should handle disagreements in pulblic.
For now, neither Davido nor the Edo State government has publicly announced a formal state-wide performance ban.
