The late Robert Mugabe’s son, Chatunga Mugabe (29), has been arrested again. This time, on charges of attempted murder.
The Mugabe family are known to occasionally visit their Johannesburg, South Africa home, where they have a reputation for partying.
Lawyer Ashley Mugiya told The Associated Press news agency that Chatunga Mugabe was one of two men detained and questioned on Thursday. Gunshots were heard coming from the apartment, and when the police arrived, they found the gardener in critical condition.
“The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage, and police investigations are under way,” Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said.
The police have refused to mention the names of the two people arrested until they appear in court, which is a normal procedure of the South African police. However, the information was leaked via photographs from IOL News, which showed Mugabe in handcuffs being escorted by police.

Nevhuhulwi said that both suspects are uncooperative and had also been when police first arrived on the scene.
“They have not told us where the gun is,” Nevhuhulwi said. “We cannot definitely say who shot.”
The Mugabe Family
Chatunga Mugabe is the youngest son of the late former Zimbabwe president, Robert Mugabe, and his second wife, Grace Mugabe. The former president was ousted in a 2017 military takeover after 37 years of being in power. He died in Singapore in 2019.
The Mugabe family have history of police charges, with the eldest son, Robert Jr, fined $300 in 2015 after admitting to possession of marijuana in Zimbabwe.
Grace Mugabe was also accused of assaulting a model by beating her with an electric cord in the presence of her sons at a luxury hotel in Johannesburg in 2017. She was the first lady at the time and was ordered to appear in court before being granted diplomatic immunity.

She was also accused of hitting a servant with a shoe in the Johannesburg home where she stays with her two sons, Robert Jr and Chatunga.
