Rasheed Aro, Founding Partner of BlackMond LP, has successfully represented a Nigerian Munachi Enuka Winifred in a legal dispute with Meta Platforms, Inc. and its Lagos office.

On 21 September 2026, Aro filed a formal, six-page legal petition against the company. Within two weeks, Meta restored all five of Winifred’s suspended Instagram accounts.

According to Lawverse Magazine, the dispute began in January 2026 when Meta’s automated enforcement systems started restricting Winifred’s accounts under an undefined “Account Integrity” label.

The restrictions eventually affected Winifred personal profile, personal travel diary, two business accounts and a replacement account. Meta disabled all five accounts despite her compliance with its verification requirements. These included live facial scans and international passport submissions.

Petition Highlights Repeated Account Suspensions

BlackMond LP highlighted an incident on 6 August 2026 to demonstrate what it described as flaws in Meta’s automated enforcement process.

The petition stated that Meta reinstated one of Winifred’s accounts at 2:17 am but permanently disabled it again at 2:18 am. This happened before she could take any action on the restored account.

BlackMond LP Cites Nigerian Laws

BlackMond LP argued that Meta’s repeated, automated suspensions violated the company’s own Terms of Use and several provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

The petition cited Sections 34, 36, 37 and 39, which protect human dignity, fair hearing, privacy and freedom of expression.

It also referenced Section 37 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, which addresses automated processing and the right to human intervention.

The legal notice further cited Meta’s regulatory history in Nigeria. It referenced the $220 million penalty that the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal affirmed against the company in April 2025.

Petition Gives Meta 14 Days to Comply

BlackMond LP gave Meta 14 days to comply with its demands. The firm requested manual human reviews of the suspended accounts and their full restoration.

It also demanded written explanations of the reasons for linking the accounts and details of the company’s data retention practices concerning Winifred’s biometric information.

The petition warned that Meta could face enforcement proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lagos if it failed to meet the demands within the specified period.

BlackMond LP also sent copies of the petition to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
