For nearly three decades, the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) operated without a permanent administrative headquarters. That finally changed this week.
The Lagos CAN not only now has a permanent secretariat, but the leadership has also officially renamed its newly completed building the “Senator Oluremi Tinubu CAN Lagos State Secretariat” in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The building, located in Alausa, Ikeja, was declared open by CAN’s National President, Daniel Okoh, who described the development as a product of perseverance and long-standing commitment by the Lagos chapter.
She described the completion of the secretariat as the end of years of dispute over the land. “The completion of the secretariat ends years of dispute over the land and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians in Lagos State,” she said.
From healthcare facilities to resettlement projects and industrial hubs, Oluremi Tinubu’s name is now attached to a growing number of public spaces across the country. The CAN secretariat may be the latest example, but it certainly isn’t the only one.
Here’s a look at other places in Nigeria that have been named after her:
1. Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Centre – Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos

This modern 30-bed primary health care centre in the Ikoyi-Obalende area of Lagos State was commissioned in July 2025 and officially bears Remi Tinubu’s name. The health centre is meant to improve grassroots access to healthcare, especially for women and children.

2. Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City – Nasarawa State

Commissioned in June 2025, this resettlement city named after Remi Tinubu provides housing and community amenities for internally displaced persons and refugees.
3. Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub – Mushin, Lagos

The industrial leather processing hub in Mushin was inaugurated with Remi Tinubu presiding, and it carries her name in honour of her empowerment and enterprise focus. Designed to boost leather manufacturing, it is expected to create thousands of jobs and strengthen local industry.
4. Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre – Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife

At Obafemi Awolowo University, a “Dream Centre” building was commissioned in Remi Tinubu’s name. The space is intended to serve as a hub where students and young people can be inspired to pursue their aspirations and learn from stories of resilience and leadership.
Whether seen as recognition for her public service or as part of a broader political culture of honouring leaders in real time, Oluremi Tinubu’s name is steadily finding its place on buildings and public projects across Nigeria.
For some people, this is seen as a recognition of her role and influence, while others see it as a way of honouring leaders while they are still in office. However, there is a slight irony because on her recent trip to the US, she evaded journalists’ questions on whether terrorists were attacking Christians in Nigeria.
Nevertheless, if recent developments are anything to go by, the list may not be complete just yet, and many more buildings may soon be named after her.
