Some view it as empowering for focus in a hyper-sexualized culture, while others see it as outdated or challenging.
Choosing to stay celibate is often for personal and faith-driven reasons; however, experiences vary. 
Here are Nigerian celebrities practising celibacy as publicly shared.
Omowunmi Akinnifesi
The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) 2005 winner Omowunmi Akinnifesi made a covenant with God at age 18 to remain celibate till marriage. She opened up about this in 2024 when she was 37. She discussed the pressures, the shame she felt in her 20s, and how she embraced it as consecration to God rather than just “celibacy.”
Sydney Talker
Comedian and skit maker Sydney Talker marked his fourth year being celibate on July 23. He explained how not sleeping in the same bed with a woman has not been easy but credited God for discipline and wants to continue.
Juliana Olayode
Juliana Olayode, also known as “Toyo Baby” from Jenifa’s Diary, has embraced celibacy to honour God. She always acknowledges the struggles and desires but chooses to prioritise her faith. Olayode has said that it has cost her relationships and some career opportunities, but she values the purpose and peace it gives.
Tiwa Savage
Award-winning singer Tiwa Savage is another celebrity on the celibacy list. In 2025, she revealed she had been celibate for three years, mainly because she has been single and only feels the urge for intimacy when in love.
TG Omori
Nigerian music video director ThankGod Omori revealed on his X on October 1, 2025, that practicing celibacy solved half his problems.
