Adekunle Gold

Real name: Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko

According to Music in Africa, he said, “In 2008, I wanted a name. I spoke to God, he took me to church. He said, ” Son, you are golden. There’s nothing better, better than gold.”
Amaarae

Real name: Ama Serwah Genfi
Place of origin: Greater Accra Region (Accra), Ghana
Her stage name “Amaarae” is a stylized extension of her first name “Ama,” repeated and reshaped to create a softer, more futuristic identity.
Asake

Real name: Ololade Ahmed
Place of origin: Lagos State, Nigeria.
Asake is his mother’s name. He was fondly called Omo Asake (Child of Asake) back in school, before it was shortened to Asake.
Ayra Starr

Real name: Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe
Place of origin: Kwara State, Nigeria.
She was Oyin before she was signed by Mavin Records. In an episode of The Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, she said, “Oyin means honey, I love it and would have gone for it but my team, Don Jazzy, Rema and others all thought about it and we got something – Ira… I don’t know how it happened, I decided to Google it one time, I spelt AYRA, and it means someone that is highly respected and open-minded in Arabic, and it just made sense.” Don Jazzy reportedly added ‘Star,’ and she added an extra ‘r’ to make it unique.
Black Sherif

Real name: Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong
Place of origin: Ashanti Region (Konongo-Zongo), Ghana
“Black Sherif” is derived from his real name, “Sherif.” “Black” is from what he was popularly called “Blacko,” a nickname that grew organically among fans before his breakout success.
