Like many billionaires in Africa, Okyere grew up surrounded by people of wealth. He was born in 1980 into a wealthy Ashanti family in Ghana.

His father was an industrialist involved in construction, steel, and cocoa farming. Being born into wealth didn’t make him slothful, though. Okyere began selling iced water at football matches as a child.

He attended high school in Ghana. He later studied accounting at George Mason University in the United States before returning to Ghana to build his own empire.

When Okyere founded Springfield Energy in 2008, he started by importing fuel. Springfield got West Cape Three Points Block 2 from the Ghanaian government in 2016. They were given after another company, Kosmos, gave it up.
The importation of fuel then gradually expanded into a full-scale energy conglomerate.

Springfield Group now operates across oil trading and supply, storage and distribution, gas stations, and offshore oil exploration. In 2018, he featured in an article by Forbes as a ”38-year-old Entrepreneur Who Built A $1 Billion Oil Company in Ghana”. By 2019, it became the first indigenous Ghanaian company to drill in deep water. Springfield later announced a discovery of about 1.5 billion barrels of oil, which was a major milestone for Ghana’s energy sector.

These achievements positioned Okyere as one of Africa’s most important local stakeholders in oil exploration.

He leads a pretty private life, as nothing is known about his family apart from him having a son.

Unlike many oil executives, Okyere has cultivated a highly visible, charismatic public image. Frequently posts videos dancing to Afrobeats and other music. He always appears relaxed, stylish, and approachable despite his wealth.

He is also known for blending his corporate power with his social media persona, effectively engaging his audience while promoting his business ventures and philanthropic initiatives.

Okyere is also known for his philanthropic efforts through the Kevin Okyere Foundation, which supports education and healthcare initiatives in Ghana.

It’s safe to say Kevin Okyere represents a new class of African billionaires—one that can be suited in boardrooms but vibe to the latest Afrobeat music in public.
