The Rivers State Police Command has ordered a full investigation after reports emerged that suspected cultists renovated part of a police outpost in Abuloma, Port Harcourt.
The controversy followed a social media post by Naija Confra, which alleged that members of the DNKI (Vikings) cult group renovated the facility at Okuru Junction. The group reportedly visited the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the renovation’s completion. All members of the group were dressed in their official regalia of Vikings, white and red.
The incident has raised concerns about the relationship between suspected cult groups and security institutions. It has also prompted questions about police accountability and the potential influence of criminal groups.
In response, the Rivers State Police Command condemned the reported incident, relieved two officers of their duties pending investigation and ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the renovation.
Police Query Officers, Launch Investigation
In a statement, the Rivers State Police Command said it had taken note of the viral report and circulating video concerning the Abuloma Police Outpost. The command condemned any association that could undermine the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force. It also warned against allowing police facilities to become platforms for suspected criminal groups seeking public recognition or influence.
Consequently, the command queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected outpost.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju ordered a full investigation to establish what happened and determine whether the allegations were accurate. Investigators will identify those who financed or facilitated the renovation and establish which officers authorised the project. They will also determine whether officials followed the necessary procedures and whether any police personnel breached professional standards.

The command, however, clarified that it welcomes legitimate community contributions towards improving police facilities. It cited Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
Nevertheless, it stressed that such assistance must not compromise police independence, security or professional standards. The command warned that donations would not protect anyone from investigation or prosecution. It also promised appropriate disciplinary or legal action against anyone found culpable.

Police Urged to Maintain Their Facilities
While commending the Rivers State Police Command for its response, Naija Confra urged the police and the state government to improve the maintenance of public security facilities. The platform argued that properly maintained police stations would reduce the circumstances that might encourage outside groups to offer assistance.
However, the circumstances surrounding the Abuloma renovation remain subject to investigation. The police have yet to establish who financed the work, whether officers approved it or whether anyone breached the law.
The command has urged residents to remain calm and provide credible, timely information to support security efforts across Rivers State. It also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and the fight against cultism and organised crime.
As the investigation continues, the central question remains whether the renovation involved legitimate community support or an attempt by suspected cultists to gain influence within a security institution.
