The two young men who reportedly died in a tragic helicopter crash in Tema on Monday, March 16, have been identified as the sons of a well-known Ghanaian religious leader.

According to multiple reports, the victims are the children of Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, founder of Hebron Prayer Camp near Nsawam. One of the deceased has been confirmed as Captain Frank Donkor, 36, a trained and experienced pilot, and his younger brother, Elijah Ofori Donkor, 25, a university graduate.

Captain Donkor, who held Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) ratings, is said to have been flying the microlight helicopter at the time of the incident. Reports indicate he had taken his brother along for the flight when the crash occurred.

According to aviation authorities, the aircraft was en route from Accra to Kumasi and was expected to arrive at approximately 15:20. However, the last communication with the pilot was recorded earlier in the afternoon, around 14:00.

Microlight aircraft, also known as ultralight aircraft, are small, lightweight planes normally used for recreational flying, training, and aerial observation. They usually carry only one or two people and have a significantly lower take-off weight compared to conventional aircraft.

Further details on what may have led to the incident are yet to be released by Ghanaian authorities.
