A clip of Mr Macaroni explaining why he stopped publicly criticising the government has gone viral again, prompting the comedian and activist to respond.
In the old interview, Debo Adedayo (Mr Macaroni) revealed that constant threats against him and his family made him step back. He described his mother calling him in tears about strange movements around their house. He added that there were offers made to fly him out of the country for safety, which he rejected.
In response to the sudden trend of the video again, on Wednesday, September 15, Macaroni clarified that the interview is more than two years old. While he stood by the points he made then, he urged people to look beyond the personal threats.

Nigerians Are Quick to Move On – Mr Macaroni
The actor and skit maker says his frustration with Nigeria is how quickly Nigerians adapt to the bad situation after complaining. Mr Macaroni noted that he has said the same things countless times already, and repeating them has become exhausting. He said Nigerians are not willing to fight collectively for a lasting change.
Mr Macaroni, was one of the most visible faces of the #EndSARS protests in 2020. In his post on X, he argues that the real problem is the tendency of Nigerians to complain loudly. He claimed and then quickly move on without sustained pressure.

He was known to be very vocal as he addressed government officials. Although he was arrested and brutalised during the #OccupyLekkiTolIGate action in 2021, Mr Macaroni remained outspoken for years after. As an activist and influencer, he has consistently used his platform to demand accountability from the government, justice for victims of police brutality, and better governance.
In another post following his initial response, Mr Macaroni wrote:
“Threats are a usual occurrence. Please don’t mix things up. I am only tired of saying the same thing over and over again. When Nigerians are finally ready, I will be ready too!” In continuation he added, “But till then, please let me continue enjoying my break by redefining myself and Art which I love as dearly as I love Nigeria.”
Many have praised him for prioritising his safety and mental peace after years of activism. Several users also noted that he had already put himself on the line during #EndSARS.
Mr Macaroni endured arrest and threats, and continued speaking long after many others went quiet.
