Morayo Afolabi-Brown, host of the Morayo Show, has spoken out after a clip from her programme featuring veteran actress Shaffy Bello went viral online.
In the viral clip, Shaffy Bello says, “If what you are doing now is being a “runs girl” (prostitute) to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it; I understand it, and I never judge. If you are going to be an ashewo, do it well. Yes, do it well. Do it with respect, with your full chest. Do it with your full chest, with respect and dignity; however, don’t stay there. If that’s what you have to do right now, if that’s what you have to do to make a living—some girls are doing it because they need to feed mom, they need to send their aburo to school, I understand it; however, my darlings, don’t stay there.”

The clip, taken from an episode eight days ago, has sparked debate and backlash online. While critics accuse her of endorsing prostitution, others view her comments as empathetic realism given current economic hardships.
However, host Morayo Afolabi-Brown has cleared the air regarding the viral clip in an Instagram post.
She explained that Shaffy Bello was by no means accepting or endorsing prostitution. Instead, Afolabi-Brown noted that Bello was simply showing empathy for those who have found themselves in that lifestyle because they lack options and “that’s all they know”.
“Her focus was empathy, not judgement, and people misconstrued that to say she was endorsing it. It’s not fair… So I beg you, leave Aunty Shaffy Bello alone. The intention was not to endorse prostitution; it was just to highlight that there are people who were born into it, who find themselves in it due to different circumstances… She’s saying, ‘I see you, however, don’t stay there,’” Morayo said.
Morayo also stressed that her show is for “joy, peace and light” and not to get people to trend for the wrong reasons. “There are plenty of shows for that, not the Morayo Show.”
Although it’s clear what Shaffy Bello meant on the show, this situation emphasises how comments online are taken out of context, misconstrued, and blown out of proportion.
