A Nigerian man, simply known as Mufasa on X, has shared an emotional story about welcoming a child conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) using his late brother’s banked sperm. The man revealed that his elder brother preserved his sperm before starting chemotherapy for lung cancer.
He said the decision later gave the family an opportunity to have his brother’s child after his death. Sharing the story online, he described the birth of his nephew as both emotional and remarkable.
“Science is amazing!” he wrote. 
According to him, his brother banked his sperm before beginning chemotherapy. The family had discussed fertility preservation because treatment could affect his ability to conceive.
He shared the story during a visit to the hospital where the baby was conceived. He and the boy met with the doctor in charge of procedure during the courtesy visit. The ‘new father’ went to the hospital with a gift for the doctor.
IVF: Family Continues Brother’s Legacy
During his brother’s final weeks, the family began discussing an IVF process. He said they initiated the process before his brother died. However, the family chose to continue after his death.
About six months ago, they welcomed Chinonso Francis Jidenna Ezeokoye II. The proud father said the baby strongly resembles his late biological father. He also explained the role he would play in the child’s life.
“He’s a split image of his biological father, my elder brother, at his age,” he wrote.
“For his lifetime, I’m his daddy,” he said.
The experience has given the grieving family a lasting connection to the man they lost. The child’s birth also followed months of medical planning and fertility treatment. The man expressed gratitude to Trucare Fertility Clinic for helping the family complete the process.
‘I Don’t Need to Plaster God Everywhere’
While sharing the story, he stressed that he did not intend to create a debate about religion and science.
“Please, this isn’t a post on God vs. science,” he wrote.
He explained that his personal faith allows him to appreciate scientific advancement.
“As someone who believes in God, I personally believe that science is the best manifestation of God’s mandate,” he said.
He added that people did not need to constantly invoke religion to demonstrate their faith.
“In all, always thank God for the gift of science,” he concluded.
A Brother Remembered Beyond Death
The birth story carries an even deeper meaning because of the family’s recent loss. The man revealed that his elder brother died from lung cancer after his diagnosis in 2025. He said the family pursued every medically necessary option during his treatment.
“Personally, he was my first and longest life ally,” he wrote.
His brother’s death, he added, has left a heavy emotional burden on the family. However, through the child, the family now has another connection to his memory.
For them, the IVF journey has transformed profound grief into a deeply personal reminder of his life and legacy.
