Ever noticed your data bundle disappearing faster than usual, even when you’re sure you didn’t stream movies or watch Instagram reels for hours? Sometimes it’s not MTN/GLO/Airtel that’s after your life. Someone might be secretly sharing your data with you.

Let’s walk through how you can check if someone else is using or sharing your mobile data on MTN, Airtel, and Glo and what signs to look out for.

What Does “Sharing Data” Even Mean?

On some networks, especially Glo, there’s a feature that allows you to share your data bundle with other numbers. It’s useful when you want to help a friend or family member stay connected to the internet. But if someone gained access to your phone, SIM, or PIN, they could activate sharing without your knowledge.

On MTN and Airtel, it is not the traditional “sharing.” Instead, someone might be linked to your account, using your hotspot, or accessing your network app. That’s why monitoring your account and phone matters.

Signs Someone Else Might Be Using Your Data

Before telling you specific network settings, here are common ways to know someone is sharing your data with you:

  • Your data balance drops suddenly or much faster than usual.
  • Data drains overnight even when you weren’t actively using your phone.
  • Your phone’s data tracker shows high usage for apps you didn’t open.
  • You receive unexpected data usage alerts.

If you have noticed any of these, it’s time to think again, better still, read on to find out how to deal with it.
