In Nigeria, you can now get an affidavit online as a key supporting document for correcting your date of birth or related details on official records like your NIN or BVN.
Incorrect details can block bank transactions, SIM registration, passport applications, or other processes. Hence, unlike years ago, you no longer need to visit a physical court because the Federal High Court of Nigeria runs an official e-Affidavit Portal that lets you apply, pay, and download a verified court affidavit entirely online.
The Federal High Court e-Affidavit Portal makes use of the Electronic Court Management System (ECMS) platform where you can get an affidavit online in Nigeria for:
- Correction of Date of Birth
- Statutory Declaration of Age
- Name change/correction
- Banking-related declarations
- Loss of documents and other general purposes

How to Get Affidavit for Identity Document Correction Online
1. Visit the portal and create an account. Provide your full name, phone number, date of birth, email address, and a password. The name you register with will appear on the affidavit.
2. Select the affidavit type you want to get. (e.g., Correction of Date of Birth or Statutory Declaration of Age).
3. Fill in the required details carefully. For a DOB correction, you will typically state the incorrect date currently on record, the correct date, and the reason for the correction. Provide your residential address, occupation, NIN (where applicable), gender, religion, and other personal information.
4. Upload supporting documents and a passport photograph. Accepted IDs usually include NIN, international passport, driver’s licence, or voter’s card. You have to keep each file under 300KB.
5. Preview everything thoroughly, as payments are final, non-refundable, and non-transferable.
6. Accept the terms and conditions (including consent under the Nigeria Data Protection Act) and submit.
7. Pay the fee online via Paystack or Remita. The fees to be paid cost less than N2,000.
8. After processing and approval by a Commissioner for Oaths, download the verified affidavit from the portal.
A copy will also be sent to your email. It usually includes a unique reference number and QR code/ barcode for verification.
All these can be done within a few minutes. This online process has made obtaining a valid court affidavit significantly easier and more accessible for Nigerians across the country.
The traditional physical court options (High Court or Magistrate Court registry before a Commissioner for Oaths) still exist if the online route does not suit your situation, but the e-portals remove the need to visit in most ordinary cases.
