Sexual assault allegations have involved several prominent Nigerian entertainers and public figures over the years.
Some cases resulted in convictions, while others ended without charges or remain unresolved. These allegations have also sparked wider conversations about accountability, consent and the treatment of survivors.
However, an accusation does not establish guilt. Each person remains presumed innocent unless a court determines otherwise. 
1. Actor Baba Ijesha: Convicted for sexually assaulting a minor
Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, faced sexual assault allegations in 2021. The case involved a 14-year-old girl and attracted nationwide attention. CCTV footage also featured prominently during the proceedings.
In July 2022, a Lagos court convicted Baba Ijesha on four of six counts. The court sentenced him to 16 years in prison. However, the sentences were ordered to run concurrently. The court acquitted him on two other counts, including sexual assault by penetration.
Though Baba Ijesha served his jail term, he is out and a free man.
2. Singer D’banj sexual assault allegation could not be sustained
Singer Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, faced a rape allegation in 2020. Seyitan Babatayo alleged that he assaulted her in a Victoria Island, Lagos hotel in December 2018.
The Mobolowowon singer denied the allegation and maintained his innocence throughout the controversy. Rather, he launched multi-billion Naira legal actions against his accuser to prove his innocence.
Babatayo later withdrew her police petition, citing personal reasons. Police subsequently discontinued the investigation, citing insufficient evidence.
The controversy nevertheless generated intense public debate about sexual violence and reporting. An hashtag was created for the awareness, #SayNoToRape and ##JusticeForSeyitan.
3. Singer Peruzzi: Accused by 2 women of sexual abuse
Singer Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, known as Peruzzi, faced rape allegations from women in 2020. One woman alleged that the singer raped her in 2012 after she visited his home. Another singer, Daffy Blanco, had also accused Peruzzi of sexual assault.
Peruzzi denied the allegations and described them as false. The accusations did not result in criminal charges against him.
4. Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo: Messy sexual assault allegation by Busola Dakolo
Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) founder Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo faced a major controversy in 2019. Photographer and wife of singer Timi Dakolo, Busola Dakolo, accused him of raping her when she was a teenager.
Fatoyinbo strongly denied the allegation and described it as false. The controversy triggered widespread debate and renewed Nigeria’s conversation about sexual abuse.
A court later dismissed Dakolo’s civil suit against Fatoyinbo. The ruling centred on legal limitations surrounding the claim. Dakolo subsequently indicated that she intended to appeal the decision.
5. Speed Darlington: Declared wanted by NAPTIP over case involving minor
Rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly called Speed Darlington, faced serious allegations in 2025. The controversy followed remarks he allegedly made during an Instagram Live session involving a minor.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) declared Speed Darlington wanted over alleged offences, including rape, cyberbullying and cyberstalking. The agency said he had failed to honour multiple invitations for questioning.
Speed Darlington maintained his innocence and disputed the allegations.
6. Singer Brymo: Accused online, management stepped in
Singer Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi, known professionally as Brymo, also faced a sexual assault allegation online.
A social media user shared an account attributed to an alleged victim. The account claimed an encounter occurred after she visited the singer’s home.
Brymo’s management declined to comment directly on the allegation. Instead, it indicated that the singer’s lawyers would address the matter.
No court conviction resulted from the allegation.

7. MC Galaxy: In sexual assault mess involving actress Simbee Davis
Singer Innocent Udeme Udofot, popularly known as MC Galaxy, faced an allegation in 2019. Nollywood actress Simbee Davis accused him of sexually assaulting her years earlier.
She alleged that the incident occurred in Calabar, Cross River State, between 2009 and 2010. Davis also claimed that the singer threatened her during the alleged incident.
The allegation emerged during heightened national attention on sexual abuse claims. MC Galaxy’s case did not result in a reported conviction.
8. Dr Olufemi Olaleye: Accused of molesting wife’s niece
Dr Olufemi Olaleye faced one of the most significant legal cases on this list. A Lagos court convicted him in October 2023 over allegations involving his wife’s teenage niece.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment for defilement and sexual assault by penetration. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in November 2024. The appellate court cited inconsistencies and weaknesses in the prosecution’s evidence. It consequently discharged and acquitted Olaleye.
Lagos State later appealed the appellate decision at the Supreme Court.
In November 2025, Dr Olaleye was arrested at Gatwick/ Heathrow Aiport upon arriving from Nigeria, Kent police had filed three charges of voyeurism/sexual offenses against him.
The offenses allegedly happened between May 2004 and July 2007 to 2008) while he worked as an obstetrics and gynecology specialist at Darent Valley Hospital. He denied all the charges and was released on conditional bail.
His UK allegations were not related to the Nigeria’s case.
9 . Paul Okoye: Denied allegation, vowed legal action
In September 2025, an X (formerly Twitter) user accused Rudeboy of misconduct involving one of his female domestic workers during his previous marriage to Anita Isama.
The singer vehemently denied the allegations and dismissed them as fake. Rudeboy vowed to pursue legal action against the accuser.
10. Poco Lee: Faces sexual assault allegations in the UK
Dancer and singer Iweh Pascal Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, faced allegations of sexual assault in August 2026.
Reports claimed that the United Kingdom authorities arrested him over an alleged rape case. The Snaresbrook Crown Court in UK confirmed his arrest and prosecution.
The London-based court confirmed that it has listed the case for plea and trial preparation for September 15, 2026.
Poco Lee is facing prosecution for attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
Meanwhile, Texas-based artiste, Ms Jorji, separately accused Poco Lee of attempting to sexually assault her and her friend. She alleged that the incident occurred during a visit to his Dallas home.
Poco Lee had not publicly responded to the allegations in the reports reviewed but his management team has reacted to the allegations.
The team stressed that allegations do not amount to proof of guilt while urging the public to allow the legal process to take its course.

Other Allegations and the Need for Caution
Sexual assault allegations against public figures often generate intense reactions. Social media can amplify claims before investigators or courts establish the facts. Therefore, allegations must remain clearly separated from proven criminal conduct.
Baba Ijesha’s case resulted in a conviction, while Dr Olaleye’s conviction was later overturned. Similarly, the D’banj investigation ended without sufficient evidence for police to proceed.
These different outcomes show why each case requires careful reporting and legal context.
