Few moments redefine financial history, but Elon Musk has just created one. What began as his dream to transform space travel has now made him the first person in the world to reach a net worth of $1 trillion.

Following SpaceX’s public debut, Musk became the first person in history to achieve a net worth of $1 trillion.

SpaceX began trading at $150 per share, $9 above the roughly $141-per-share threshold that would push Musk’s net worth over the trillion-dollar mark.

To cross the trillion-dollar milestone, Musk’s SpaceX holdings needed to reach a value of $717 billion. SpaceX achieved that target as its share price surged beyond $140.71 shortly after the company went public.

The SpaceX IPO significantly widened the gap between Musk and other wealthy individuals. According to Bloomberg, Google co-founder Larry Page ranks a distant second with a net worth of about $304 billion.

Musk’s wealth has more than doubled over the past year, largely due to SpaceX’s soaring valuation. Between July and December 2025, the company’s value doubled after an $800 million secondary share sale. The company later strengthened its position by merging with Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, in February 2026.

Within minutes of its market debut, SpaceX’s valuation surpassed $2 trillion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Musk’s fortune also benefits from his holdings in other companies, including Tesla, Neuralink, and his tunneling business ventures. Tesla’s stock has risen 22% over the past year, pushing the value of Musk’s stake in the electric vehicle company to approximately $165 billion.
