Luxury and lavish weddings are exactly how many celebrity marriages begin, but for some of Nigeria’s most high-profile stars, it ends in divorced. Their fairytale unions crashed, and it shook the internet.
Although celebrity breakups are not uncommon, some separations seem to hit differently.
We compiled a list of popular couples who have separated in recent years and the . This list isn’t a record of every celebrity divorce in Nigeria, nor is it ranked by numbers or timelines.
Instead, it highlights the specific separations that sparked intense conversations, dominated headlines, had social media in a frenzy for weeks, and are still being talked about today.
1. Osas Ighodaro and Gbenro Ajibade

The couple tied the knot in 2015 and announced their separation in 2019. Although more specific reasons for their divorce were not expressed, the period before their official divorce was really messy on the internet.
The separation came as a surprise, with Gbenro accusing Osas of neglecting their daughter by always leaving her at home and hanging out with her friends and defenders of Osas saying he married her for her green card.
Osas and Gbenro vehemently denied all these and now they have a beautiful coparenting arrangement.
2. Yul Edochie and May Edochie

Theirs was one of the messiest celebrity separations ever. Yul Edochie got into an affair with colleague Judy Austin, which led to the birth of a son. The actor has refused to divorce May; however, she filed for a divorce and 100 million Naira for damages. The case is still in the Abuja High Court, with the judgment delayed by court proceedings.

3. Anita Brows and Emmanuel Ikubese

The popular make-up artist and entrepreneur, Anita Adetoye, also known as Anita Brows, ended the union with actor Emmanuel Ikubese in 2021. The couple got married in March 2020, only for the union to end in less than one year.
There was no public address from either couple, but Anita removed her married name from her Instagram handle, with both of them unfollowing each other. This confirmed their separation.
There were speculations about Toke Makinwa having something to do with their separation, but she cleared the rumours in an interview with Timi Dakolo, saying, ‘I didn’t tell Anita anything.’
4.Tonto Dikeh and Churchill Olakunle

A union that was blessed with one son ended abruptly with Tonto Dikeh accusing Churchill of domestic abuse and infidelity in 2017. While Churchill denied the accusations, he went ahead to marry actress Rosy Meurer two years later, who earlier called Churchill “her brother”.
5. Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz

‘Irreconcilable differences’ were cited as a reason for this power couple’s split. Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz parted ways in 2022 after six years of marriage. The split shocked fans, with many wondering what could have gone wrong.
To answer the many questions everybody was asking, JJC addressed it, saying, ‘We’ve shared beautiful moments together, but it’s time to move forward separately.’
6. 2Baba and Annie Idibia

In January 2025, 2Baba took to his Instagram page to announce that he and his wife were getting divorced. The couple has a history of always getting into fights on the grounds of cheating.
When the divorce announcement was made, a lot of people found it hard to believe, with many assuming his account was hacked. 2Baba cleared the rumours by saying, “Nobody hacked my account. Na me yarn wetin I yarn.” He has since then gotten married to Honourable Natasha Irobosa, deputy majority leader of the Edo House of Assembly.
7. Tiwa Savage and Teebillz

What started as a fairytale wedding in 2013 quickly turned into one of the most dramatic celebrity splits Nigeria has ever witnessed. In 2016, TeeBillz went on a shocking Instagram rant accusing Tiwa of infidelity, neglect, and even financial irresponsibility.
Tiwa later granted an emotional interview denying the claims and mentioned emotional abuse and drug use in their marriage. Although they attempted to manage things privately afterward, the marriage eventually ended.
8. Toyin Abraham and Adeniyi Johnson
Toyin Abraham and Adeniyi Johnson’s marriage lasted barely two years before it crashed in 2015. What followed afterward were accusations, counter-accusations, and plenty of interviews.
Toyin accused Johnson of infidelity, which he denied. Their split played out heavily on blogs and social media, turning their private issues into public drama. Both have now moved on and remarried.
9. Cha Cha Eke and Austin Faani
This one had the internet confused. In 2020, Cha Cha Eke posted a video announcing she was leaving her marriage, citing domestic abuse. Shortly after, another video surfaced where she claimed she was battling bipolar disorder and that her earlier statements were made during an episode.

Nollywood actress Fathia Balogun officially became Fathia Williams in January 2017, following her messy divorce from Saidi Balogun.
The couple initially separated in 2006, with Saidi filing for a divorce in 2013, citing ‘irreconcilable differences and desertion’. The couple had been married for 17 years before calling it quits. A long-lasting union such as theirs had people wondering what was really going on in celebrity marriages.
Couples Who Have Reconciled
Despite celebrity marriages ending with a divorce, not every couple remained enemies. For instance, despite their headline-making 2017 split filled with accusations of abuse and infidelity, in 2026, Tonto Dikeh and Olakunle Churchill have recently appeared to have put the past behind them.
