Joseph Nii Armah Mettle, popularly known as Joe Mettle, an award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer, has announced he will not be participating in the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) as he is taking a break for personal reasons.
Mettle has performed on international stages with artists such as Nathaniel Bassey, Donnie McClurkin, Michael Stuckey and many others.
The Telecel Ghana Music Award, formerly known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Award, is Ghana’s premier music award to honour contributions to the Ghana music industry.

Joe Mettle made his decision public in an interview with Hitz FM, saying he will neither submit his songs for nomination nor participate in any activity related to the award.
When asked if he disclosed the decision to the award organisers, he said he already did and any issues it would have caused have already been settled.
“No, I’ve already had the conversation with them, so we are fine. I’m taking a small break from the TGMA this year. I won’t be around. I saw the date, and I won’t be around. That’s why,” he replied.
To clear scepticism of making his absence a pattern, the award-winning singer clarified his decision is just for the 2026 awards and doesn’t extend to coming years.
“This year. It’s just for this year. We are dealing with this year, so when other years come, we will deal with them. You are in a hurry to go to other years when you haven’t seen this year yet,” he added.
His fans and the general public aren’t really happy with this decision of his, saying he is an award-winning gospel artist whose presence is always noticed at the awards.
Joe Mettle made history as the first Ghanaian gospel musician to win the coveted Artist of the Year award at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards.
