Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade has spoken about her 30-year marriage to her husband, Matthew Ekeinde. She explained how they view their relationship and why they do not treat marriage as something that should restrict them.
During an interview with Chude, Omotola said marriage is not “all of that” and explained that she and her husband do not believe they should treat marriage as something too serious or sacred. She said:
“It’s easy for us to relate because he knows who I am and what I stand for. Whenever we have issues, we discuss it because we are partners in life. But we don’t carry this husband-and-wife thing on our head like it’s a sacred thing that you don’t touch.” 
Omotola continued:
“It’s not that serious. We are partners, and I have a journey, and I choose to take that journey with you. You have your own journey; I choose to take that journey with you. With or without you, I’ll make my journey. With or without me, he would make his journey.”
Omotola Explains Why They Respect Each Other’s Space
The actress explained that she and her husband choose to remain together rather than stay in the marriage because they feel forced to do so. Speaking further, she noted:
“So we both understand that I’m with you isn’t because I have to be with you. I’m with you because I choose to be with you. He is with me because he chooses to be with me. So we respect each other’s space.”
Omotola also explained that her commitment to her husband goes beyond how she feels about him at any particular time. She said:
“He knows that I’m not with him because I love him all the time. I’m with him because I choose and because God has given me a mandate to be by his side and vice versa.”
“And the time I see him and I’m not too much in love with him, I report him to God. I’m honouring him not because I love him too much, I’m honouring God who is above him who made a mandate to be with my husband.”

Omotola Talks About Attraction Outside Her Marriage
The actress also spoke candidly about moments when she questions her choice of husband and notices other attractive men. She said:
“There are sometimes that I look at him and I say, somebody needs to remind me why I choose this guy again. And there are sometimes that I see guys that are looking fantabulous and I say, I picked this one over you, and we have these discussions.”
Omotola noted that the problem in life is that people try to be fake that marriage is not that serious.
