Tayo Faniran, a Nollywood actor has spoken about the state of Nigeria’s film industry. He claimed that favouritism and politics have a greater influence on success than talent.
Tayo Faniran Compares Nollywood to Nigerian Politics
Speaking during an appearance on TVC Entertainment News, Faniran compared the challenges Nigerians face in governance with what he described as the situation within Nollywood.
According to him, the film industry faces even more political influence than the country itself. 
“When you talk about the politics of our country, like government and all of that, and what we are complaining about today as citizens, in Nollywood we’re facing times 10 of that,” he said.

Tayo Faniran Says Talent Alone Is Not Enough
The Big Brother Africa reality star also reflected on his career. He argued that his talent should have taken him further if Nollywood operated strictly on merit.
“Someone like me, if Nollywood were to be strictly about talent, I should be far beyond where I am now,” Faniran said.
The actor further alleged that some prominent producers, directors and actors have gained their positions through industry politics rather than talent.
He also claimed that the same culture affects awards in the industry.
“Also, there is a lot of rigging going on. In today’s industry, the biggest film producers, directors, and performers aren’t necessarily the most talented. Awards are also rigged,” he noted.

Faniran’s comments highlight his concerns about the role of politics, favouritism and alleged rigging in Nollywood. The actor believes the industry would offer more opportunities to talented individuals if merit played a greater role in determining success.
