Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, a Nollywood actress, has spoken out about the differences in how Hollywood and Nollywood manage royalties.
In an interview with the Afropolitan Podcast, Omotola claimed that her work in Hollywood has resulted in residual payments, despite spending significantly less time in the sector than her 30-year career in Nollywood.
She said: 
“The fact that I have only worked how many jobs in Los Angeles right now, I just came back from LA and my envelopes were piled up of residuals waiting for me.”
Omotola explained that she did not even have enough time to open the envelopes because she spent only three days in Los Angeles before returning.
“I couldn’t even open it because I was only in LA for three days and I had to rush back. They would be waiting for me till when I get back, but I have only put in five years in LA, in Hollywood, and I have put in 30 years in Nollywood and I have never received an envelope.”
She then joked about the situation, saying:
“Maybe they don’t know my address, they don’t know where I live.”

Omotola Compares 5 Years in Hollywood With 30 Years in Nollywood
Omotola’s comments highlight her experience with residuals in Hollywood compared with her long career in Nollywood.
The actress has spent about three decades working in Nollywood, while she has spent five years working in Hollywood. Despite the difference in the length of time she has spent in both industries, she said Hollywood has paid her residuals while she has never received similar payments from her work in Nollywood.
Omotola’s Rise to Nollywood’s Cinema Box Office Queen
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde became prominent after making her Nollywood film debut in Mortal Inheritance in 1995.
During the early 2010s, Omotola starred in several high-grossing films that achieved major success.
Her first major box-office achievement came with Ije in 2010, which became the highest-grossing film ever in African cinemas at the time.
She followed that success with Last Flight to Abuja, which earned another box-office record after it became the highest-grossing film during its opening week.
These achievements earned Omotola the nickname Cinema Box Office Queen. She has also become one of the most watched actresses in Africa.
