A Life Beyond the Screen

Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, the veteran actor built a career that spanned several decades across television, film and theatre. He became one of the most recognisable faces in Nigerian cinema and appeared in numerous Nollywood productions.

Jacobs was also the husband of veteran actress Joke Silva, with whom he shared both family life and a long connection to Nigeria’s film and theatre industry.

Beyond his work on screen, Jacobs also contributed to the development of younger actors through Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, which he founded with Joke Silva. The Lagos-based institution has trained aspiring performers and other creative professionals in different areas of theatre and film. His work with the academy extended his influence beyond the roles audiences knew him for and into the development of another generation of Nigerian performers.

His family announced his passing at the age of 84 and has now announced his final rites consisting of two events in Lagos to honour his life and legacy.
