Michelle Sekwena Opens Up About Her Struggle

The 25-year-old South African content creator has been sharing her journey with gigantomastia online. She has also opened up about undergoing breast reduction surgery.

Michelle said she used to be a gym rat and loved wearing crop tops. However, she claimed she was living a normal life before the condition emerged.

Michelle Opens Up About Her Breast Growth

During an interview with Metro FM, Michelle claimed that her condition was not genetic.

She said her breasts began growing noticeably when she was in Grade 10. At one point, she discovered two lumps in her right breast.

According to Michelle, she had the lumps tested that same month. However, she said the tests found nothing concerning.

She said she first noticed the rapid enlargement of her breasts on December 25, 2023.

Initially, Michelle welcomed the change because she had smaller breasts before. However, she said the growth eventually became difficult to manage.

After her first surgery in 2025, Michelle appreciates those who donated money for her surgery. She wrote:

“I have no words but God is so amazing. I went to a difficult time, depression, anxiety and lack of confidence but through God nothing is impossible. And I would like to thank everyone who donated for me. May the Lord who we pray protect all of you. And I would to thank y’all for putting me in all your prayers. They are very strong.”

What Is Gigantomastia?

Gigantomastia causes excessive and rapid growth of breast tissue.

Doctors do not always identify a specific cause. However, hormonal changes, certain medications, autoimmune conditions and genetics can contribute. The condition can also develop during puberty or pregnancy.

In some cases, doctors cannot determine the cause. This is known as idiopathic gigantomastia.

Gigantomastia can become physically and emotionally overwhelming. It may cause severe breast, neck and back pain. Some women also experience skin infections, sores, restricted movement and poor posture. Therefore, the condition can affect exercise, work and everyday activities.

Michelle reportedly said the weight affected her physically. She also claimed the condition caused serious strain around her shoulders.

She is getting ready for a second surgery.
