Rakeem Mkambala may have been the star of his first birthday celebration, but the adults were ready for their own fashion moment.

The son of Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian singer Juma Jux turned one on August 24. His parents marked the milestone by revealing his face publicly for the first time. They had kept him away from the spotlight throughout his first year.

On August 29, the family gathered in Lagos for a bigger celebration. Celebrities, friends and their children also attended.

A cowboy-inspired dress code set the tone for the party. Guests brought their own takes on the Western theme. Some fully embraced the cowboy aesthetic, while others let their personal style take centre stage.

Here are six celebrity looks that stood out

Nana Akuado

Nana Akuado brought her own interpretation of the cowboy theme to the celebration. Rather than allowing the theme to overshadow her personal style, her look balanced the playful Western inspiration with a polished fashion finish. The result was a look that felt appropriate for the occasion while still looking intentional enough for the cameras.

Veekee James

When Veekee James arrives at an event, fashion is rarely an afterthought.

The designer was among the celebrities who attended Rakeem’s birthday celebration, and her appearance brought the same fashion conscious energy that has become associated with her public appearances. Her look stood out for the way it interpreted the party’s dress code without losing the polished quality expected from one of Nigeria’s most recognisable fashion designers.

For Veekee, a themed event becomes another opportunity to show that dressing for a theme does not mean abandoning individuality.

Enioluwa Adeoluwa

Enioluwa Adeoluwa has built a reputation for treating celebrity events as opportunities to have fun with fashion, and Rakeem’s cowboy themed celebration was no different.

The media personality was among the guests at the Lagos celebration, joining other stars who turned up for the milestone.

His look brought a youthful energy to the guest lineup, showing that cowboy inspired dressing does not have to be restricted to the traditional boots, hats and denim combination.

Alvin of Lagos

Alvin of Lagos added another perspective to the evening’s fashion lineup. Known for his strong presence within Lagos’ fashion and social scene, his appearance fitted naturally into a celebration where the dress code encouraged guests to experiment.

What made the look interesting was its ability to work within the cowboy concept while still feeling distinctly like an Alvin of Lagos moment.

Chioma Good Hair

Chioma Good Hair rarely needs much introduction when fashion enters the conversation.

The entrepreneur and socialite has long been recognised for her strong personal style and presence at major Lagos events. Her connection to the Ojo family also made her appearance at Rakeem’s celebration particularly fitting. Priscilla has previously described Chioma as her “big sis”, biggest supporter and “Queen of Fashion”, while Chioma has also been part of the family’s wider circle since before Priscilla and Juma Jux’s marriage. At Rakeem’s birthday, she brought that established fashion sensibility to the cowboy themed celebration, proving once again why she remains one of the personalities to watch whenever Lagos’ social and fashion scenes overlap.

Prudent Gabriel

Prudent Gabriel rounded out the fashion lineup with a look that showed another way to approach the party’s Western inspired theme.

Rather than simply dressing for attention, her appearance worked as part of the wider visual story of the celebration. With so many guests interpreting the same theme differently, the appeal was in seeing how each personality translated the brief into their own style language.

And that is what made the party’s fashion moment work.

For Rakeem, it marked his first year and the beginning of a more public chapter after his parents chose to reveal his face. For everyone else, it was an opportunity to celebrate the milestone and, of course, show up looking the part.

The cowboy theme simply gave everyone a little more room to play.
