Bukky Wright, a Nollywood actress, has defended women from the “gold digger” stereotype, stating that men should be responsible for providing for the women they choose to date.
During an interview, the actress stated that men should not wait for women to request basic care and support. According to her, a respectable man should recognise that his partner deserves to look beautiful and live comfortably.
“She doesn’t even need to ask you; it’s your responsibility as a man to know that my woman needs to wear good clothes, my woman needs to look good, even if its looking good for you as a man, she should be your pride and everything you want to spend on.”
The actress said a man should ensure that his woman has good clothes and presents herself well because her appearance reflects positively on him. She added that a woman should be a source of pride, and a man should willingly spend on her if he truly values the relationship.

Bukky Wright also criticised men who describe women as gold diggers. She questioned what people expect women to “dig” if not gold, stressing that women should never settle for less than they deserve.
“I hate it when I hear men calling women ‘gold diggers’. What do you expect her to dig? I won’t advise women to take anything less than gold,” she said.
The actress further advised men to be realistic about their financial capacity. She said men who cannot afford the lifestyle they expect in a relationship should either avoid dating or date women whose expectations match their financial situation.
Her statements led to discussions, with many individuals questioning the responsibilities of financial responsibility, expectations, and provision in modern relationships.
