A family in Kasarani has been thrown into mourning and in shock after their 21-year-old daughter, Margaret Wambui, tragically fell to her death from the 22nd floor of Altura Apartments in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Wambui, who was an intern at a hotel, left her family home around 7 PM on Saturday but never reached her workplace. Her loved ones only learned of the tragedy later that night when a concerned friend called after repeated attempts to reach her went unanswered. Someone else eventually picked up Wambui’s phone and directed the friend to contact the family and report to DCI Kilimani offices.

What Happened on the Rooftop?
According to preliminary reports, Wambui got into the apartment building around 10 PM. She was at the reception area for a short while before heading to the rooftop. According to Kenyans.co, Wambui was reportedly taking photographs moments before the fall that claimed her life.
Police recovered her handbag from the rooftop, containing her mobile phone, work uniform, and personal belongings, while her body was discovered in a neighbouring building.
Family Rejects Suicide Narrative
Wambui’s mother, Wangari Gathogo, has firmly ruled out suicide. She described her daughter as a focused young woman whose life revolved around home and work, with no signs of emotional distress.
“She had no reason to take her own life. We want a thorough investigation to establish whether she fell accidentally, was pushed, or if there was foul play involved,” Gathogo said.

The family is demanding answers, calling on detectives to leave no stone unturned in finding the cause of Margaret Wambui’s death.
Detectives from Kilimani Police Station have also begun reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to reconstruct Wambui’s final movements. Her body has been moved to Nairobi Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to provide more clarity on the incident.
Police have appealed to members of the public with any information about Margaret Wambui’s death to come forward.
This incident comes less than a week after a Grade 9 student at CITAM Schools Ngong also died after falling from a school rooftop. Both cases remain under active investigation and have raised public concern about unexplained deaths involving high-rise buildings in the city.
