Tanzanian singer Zuchu announced on Sunday that she and Diamond Platnumz have separated and are going through a divorce. The statement, shared on her Instagram page, was clear and final.

“Hello my GPG, my former partner and I are now separated and going through a divorce,” she wrote. “For me, this is a time to heal and focus more on my health and my work. Our chapter has come to an end, Alhamdulillah. We tried, but Allah has His own plans, and I have no choice but to accept them.”
She also wished Diamond (real name Naseeb Abdul) and his family well.
Six Years of Being Together
Zuchu and Diamond first confirmed their relationship in 2021 after months of public speculation. From the beginning, it was one of the most discussed celebrity pairings in East Africa, marked by public declarations of affection, social media exchanges, and recurring reports of breakups followed by reconciliations. Their relationship moved in cycles that fans had grown familiar with, which is part of why this announcement felt different.
Earlier this year, the couple surprised their audiences by revealing they had married in a private Islamic ceremony. Diamond referred to Zuchu as his wife, and she confirmed it. After years of on-and-off headlines, the private nikah felt like a turning point and a decision to build something away from the noise they had always attracted.
The divorce announcement came a year later.

The Signs That Preceded It

The announcement didn’t arrive entirely without context. Zuchu was noticeably absent from Diamond’s mother’s birthday celebration on Saturday, a gathering she would ordinarily have been expected to attend. Online speculation had also been circulating about her health, including unconfirmed claims that she was pregnant.
Neither the reason for the split nor the details of what led to it have been publicly shared by either party. Diamond had not issued a public response at the time of publication.

Where Zuchu Is Now

The separation comes at a significant moment in Zuchu’s career, and she seems to recognise it. She signed with WCB Wasafi in 2020 and has since become one of East Africa’s most commercially successful female artists. The daughter of legendary taarab singer Khadija Kopa, she has built her own identity entirely separate from the relationship that has dominated much of her public narrative.
Her discography: Wana, Sukari, Cheche, Honey has accumulated millions of streams and earned her recognition across the continent. She didn’t become East Africa’s biggest female voice because of Diamond. She achieved this alongside him, and now she is choosing to move forward without him.
Her statement ended not with bitterness but with clarity. Her focus now is on healing, her health, and her music.
Whether this marks the end of one of Bongo Flava’s most-watched relationships or the beginning of another chapter in a story known for surprises, only time will tell.
