A few hours after the premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story on September 3, Kava released an official statement explaining a temporary app downtime. They didn’t expect the server to feel it so hard.
The platform said a “significant surge in traffic” after the release of their very first original movie placed “considerable pressure” on the servers and caused a brief interruption.
According to the statement, the rush began around 9:00 PM WAT, and it took about five hours to get the service back and fully restored by 2:00 AM WAT. 
The statement read:
“Mama Deola’s fans, what did you do? You wanted to watch the wedding; you brought the whole village. Thank you for showing up in such numbers. The Wedding continues.”
That traffic spike was proof that the anticipation had been real.

The Anticipation and Expectations Caused the Surge
There has been loud anticipation and excitement since Folagade Banks, the creator of the viral Mama Deola skits, announced that his feature debut would be Kava’s first original production.
Fans who had followed Mama Deola through short, sharp comedy skits for years were eager to see her in a full-length story.
The movie, which was directed by Femi Adebayo, centres on a chaotic Nigerian wedding filled with family drama, cultural humour, and the larger-than-life presence of Mama Deola herself.
The cast, including Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami as the couple, Shaffy Bello, Bukky Wright, Iya Rainbow, Toyin Abraham, Erica Newedim, and many more, also increased expectations of fans.
Before its premiere, reports of a wedding scene shot with over 600 people over 20 hours added to the hype.

Reactions from The Movie So Far
One early rating that has circulated online put the movie at 3/10 for the lead performance. This rating sparked pushback from fans who felt the overall package, including the storytelling and cultural flavour, delivered exactly what they anticipated.
Others noted that the character’s exaggerated style, which works perfectly in short form, feels stretched across a full movie for some viewers. The movie is still fresh, the ‘village’ is still watching, and more reviews are yet to come.
