While some entertainers have completely disappeared from the scene, others have deliberately taken a step back. 

Some have reduced visibility due to family priorities, relocation, and health challenges. Some others have decided to focus on business interests or personal growth.

Here is a list of some Nigerian celebrities who have stepped back from the spotlight.

Joseph Benjamin

The actor/TV host has largely stepped back from Nollywood for several years now.  

Benjamin relocated to the US after a failed deal, did some cab driving, and focused on personal growth. However, he has been making a gradual return with roles in films like Finding Me and others, while staying active on social media.

Stephanie Okereke-Linus

Stephanie Okereke is another one of the Nigerian celebrities who stepped back from the spotlight. The screen goddess is now focused on family and advocacy.

She’s a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and runs initiatives like her foundation and academy. She and her husband celebrated 14 years of marriage in 2026 and kept a stable, private profile.

Yomi Gold

Yomi went from the screens to the farm– livestock farm.

The popular Yoruba Nollywood actor has largely stepped away from the movie industry after relocating to the United States. He now runs a livestock business where he does goat and cattle farming for meat sales. He often shares updates on social media as “Mr Goat USA.”

Regina Askia-Williams

Regina Askia-Williams was one of the queens of Nollywood in the 1990s. She relocated to the United States years ago and reinvented herself as a certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Regina is currently practicing in New York/New Jersey.

She is actively involved in healthcare advocacy, education, and her foundation’s initiatives focused on nursing excellence in Nigeria and youth empowerment. 

D’banj

The Koko Master has been more focused on business/tech and initiatives than music.

He’s faced some legal/financial issues like court cases over debts investments.  He, however, secured a UN partnership for a youth initiative (NYPD) and continues music collabs.

Di’Ja

The former Mavin goddess is now largely focused on family life.

She welcomed her fourth child in late December 2025 and has been sharing gratitude for that chapter. Her music output has, however, been minimal.

Naeto C

The Ten Over Ten crooner largely stepped back from full-time music after marriage to focus on family life. 

In late 2025 interviews, he explained that he deliberately paused his career because it didn’t align with the family-oriented life he wanted. He also mentioned having setbacks or obstacles whenever he tries to return seriously.

Olu Jacobs

The veteran actor has been off-screen for years. He has been battling health issues (Dementia with Lewy bodies), but is alive and has had family confirmations against recurring death rumors. He’s largely out of the public eye due to his condition.
